The Red Queen's Suite
AJ had the opportunity to show her just how much he liked his new bed, before Ashley retreated into her bathroom with a specially engaged makeup artist. It wasn't actually like Ashley to spend a long time getting ready for anything, but this event was to be something special, and for once she was taking the time to look the part. She'd made AJ go into the living room then while she got dressed, so he would see the full effect at once.
She stepped out of the bedroom, biting her lip, eyebrows raised.
"Do you like it? I'm told the paint is edible."
Ashley was wearing a long skirt which wrapped around her waist and hung close to her body, in red trimmed in gold cloth (cloth similar to this). There was a matching wrap which draped over her arms at the elbows. Her hair was in an intricate Roman style, half piled on the top of her head in twists and braids, with curls hanging down over her shoulder. But the piece de resistance was the top half of her body, which was bare, save for a golden dragon painted onto her skin. It's tail disappeared under her skirt and body stretched up her torso, its wings spread over her breasts, its head curving around her neck. And down her back, ruby red fire burst from its mouth, glittering like jewels. Gold Roman sandals and blood red nails and lips completed the look.
"Ready to go?"
Ashley reached out for his arm, and took it with a smile, noticing how handsome he looked. They walked together, not rushing, towards the space that had been carved out of the Red Wing especially for the night. Jack was already waiting, and Alek arrived at the entrance about the same time they did. Alek's entire body had been painted gold, with his scars overlaid in red, so they stood out as nearly fresh. His chest was bare, and he wore Roman style pteruges of gold around his waist, over half a red tunic. In his hair he wore golden olive leaves on each side, clearly to indicate that tonight, he was Caesar. Ashley looked up at Savage, thinking that no one looked more an Emperor than he did. The four of them processed in, Ashley flanked as promised by both Alek and Savage, with Jack walking behind.
The space had been transformed into a lavish display of red and gold. The kills from the hunt the day before were roasting on spits, while platters of fruit and other delicacies were arranged at various places around the room. Filmy fabrics decorated the walls, framing specially constructed mosaics in the ancient Roman style, depicting mystery cults and rites. Red members and servants, all in Roman dress, roamed the party. Fountains flowed with wine, and servants walked the room to pour rarer and more expensive vintages into their guests' cups. Upholstered couches and stools made impromptu seating areas, while more fabric curtained off private nooks for more intimate encounters.
Part of the floor had been removed so that guests could see into the level below, where Red Guardsmen dressed as gladiators fought each other on a sand floor. Padded benches had been constructed around the depression, so that the fighting could be viewed from above and enjoyed by the guests, while servants brought them food and wine.
Seeing that everyone was in attendance, Ashley stepped forward to welcome them all.
"Welcome, honored guests. The Romans never reached us in the North, so we knew nothing of their greatness. When I traveled Anglia with my father as a girl, I was amazed by the stories the local people told of the brave conquerors, whose city walls still stood, many hundreds of years later. I was entranced by these soldiers from long ago, that valued strength, loyalty, honor. Today, these are the pillars on which we have built our Red Court. We invite you to celebrate with us tonight, at this, our Roman Bacchanalia, when we pay tribute to the ideals on which this club stands."
Ashley raised her hands into the air, indicating the room around her. Waiters began to pass out golden goblets, each inlaid with diamonds in the color of their new owner's court: red, black, or white. Ashley took her own goblet, and raised it in the air.
"A gift, from the Red Court. Please, eat, drink, enjoy the festivities. Servants are here to cater to your every desire."
Ashley met eyes with Juliette for a moment, with a smile.
"And never forget the words that make us what we are: power without consequence!"
Ashley raised her cup in salute, then drained it, motioning to those assembled that the party had started.
