Connor laughed. Haleigh hadn't been joking. Connor didn't care what Haleigh thought about him. Haleigh didn't give a damn WHAT he cared about.
"Well that's convenient, because I don't think very much of you at this point, to be honest. Baiting you? I TOLD you I wasn't going to play games... and try as YOU might, I'm going to be true to my word. I was simply calling you out... which it seems I'll be required to do AGAIN, because you keep trying to feint-and-parry my original request. I'm a little surprised.... I've never known a Marine to back down from a challenge."
She replied, leaning forward and putting her elbows on the table. He was stalling, and she didn't have the time or inclination to sit here and go round for round with him. She tried to remain civil.... they WOULD be better off with his help.... but once they got to the mansion.... the gloves could come off. Connor asked Delilah if she was going to go with Haleigh... and Haleigh was dismayed to hear Delilah respond with a lot less conviction than expected. Something felt.... off. What the hell was going on with her? Sharon was her FRIEND.... but Delilah was trying to appear impassioned because Connor was against the idea, and Haleigh didn't like that at ALL.
"Of COURSE you're going with us Delilah! What are you pussyfooting around the topic for? Your FRIENDS need you. What, are you worried he[gesturing to Connor] won't like your enthusiasm? If he doesn't, then he can FUCK OFF. This is WHAT WE DO, Delilah, and in MY opinion, any man who can't accept you for WHO YOU ARE doesn't deserve to share the same ZIP CODE with you, let alone the same bed."
And THERE HE WENT again trying to discourage them from going. He had one HELL of a thick skull.... or maybe he was just too interested in hearing his own voice warning off the inferior, pretty little girls from tackling a task he found too big for his own limited skill.
"Listen Captain Crass.... every time you tell us to forget about the place, I'm going to be right here to remind you that we've ALREADY DECIDED to GO. So you can use your best spooky voice, but we aren't going to be dissuaded. I'm not DISCUSSING our involvement here." Haleigh said, with enough confidence to recoup for Delilah's ambiguity. Maybe she had to break it down to so the dense merc could understand. "WE. ARE. GOING. ARE YOU??"
