A night at the rotunda

Nicolas could hear Delilah's comment in his head but ignored it, focusing on the task at hand. To that end, he stepped toward the outside to try to gather everyone together.

As he stepped forward, a disk opens under his feet and he begins to fall. He quickly pulls his axe as it morphs into a staff. Using the staff he pulls up quickly out of the disk before it closes. Landing beside his former spot, he exclaimed.

OK. That was really close! No intruders, D. Go back inside. I will get the others. Delilah, Morgan's couch is connected to you. When you move, it will move accordingly until I return. OK?

With that, the mutant runs outside to get the others...

Mike was watching from a distance as the pair confronted each other when a disk opened in front of him, vertically, Inside he could see a pair of eyes looking back at him. Always armed, Mike pulled his gun before realizing that it probably would do no good. A rolled back ward, then noticed that disk were popping up all over the place, even in the air!! he began to make his way to the ladies when he saw Nicolas.

Nicolas , what's up with the holes in the air? Man, if you just saw the shit I saw...we got to get everybody together inside, sort this out.

"No..no..they weren't fighting."

Delilah tried to make sense of what was happening. She even suggested Alison simply blinking Ava and herself away from the villa. Pandora shook her head knowing enough this wasn't Alison's doing.

"No, i've seen Alison blink out of sight...it was nothing like her power. They just seemed to..FALL into the ground and disappear."

Soon Nicolas came into the dining hall with an unconscious Morgan floating on a couch by his side. He had suggested this could be Morgan's doing unintentionally...it seemed logical enough considering her power.

"That means Persephone and Alison could be anywhere in time and space? Christ...how do we find them?"

The evening had just went from bad to worse as Delilah, Nicolas [with Morgan] and herself made their way deeper into the rotunda. This was ESPECIALLY dangerous for Pandora....if she was swept away into a stepping disc, her box would be completely unprotected, as would thousands of ancient artifacts, potions, and spells that resided at Minerva's mansion.

"I can't stay here...it's too risky. If I get taken by one of these stepping discs THIS timeline is in grave danger. With the box unprotected it could fall into hands far worse than Circe's."

Karen said:
and how do i know you wont try it AGAIN? it doesnt MATTER what you do in the name of philanthropy elsewhere....KNOWING that at ANY MOMENT you could do something to harm my little girl again, or anyone ELSE i care about.

Haleigh scowled. She just COULDNT escape this tirade.... like mother, like daughter and just as Morgan had stopped Haleigh from leaving, Karen stopped her as well. Haleigh glanced around to make sure there were no mudholes.

"If you don't KNOW by NOW that I would NEVER do anything to hurt Morgan-- or anyone ELSE here-- then there's nothing I can say to convince you."

Karen said:
you want to know what i want? i want to know WHY! WHY you behave the way you do. It goes BEYOND anything I could identify or define with my professional credentials...and you tell me WHY you think i SHOULD be okay with you...even knowing what i do.

Karen showed her complete lack of faith, and Haleigh was at a loss for what to do to fix it... but she found herself WANTING to fix it. Karen wanted to know WHY... it wouldn't be so hard to tell her.

"Because at SOME point, I have to STOP protecting others and START protecting MYSELF. I would think you'd know that about me by now. If I think I might get hurt.... instinct takes over. I'm not asking you to be OKAY with it... it's just... SOME people UNDERSTAND that. Ava does.... because she's my sister and she knows it's a PART of me. Nicolas does... because he's a telepath and he can hear the internal process. I'd have THOUGHT that as a therapist, you would have recognized the pattern... but I realize now that you don't WANT to see it.... and I can't figure out WHY.... or HOW to get you to see it... so YOU tell ME. Tell me what to SAY, Karen, to earn your trust. Tell me what to DO, and I'll do it. I would say, I would DO anything.... because I don't want this between us either."

She said, almost pleading. She stared into Karen's eyes, searching... and then suddenly, lightning struck, and thunder rolled.... and Morgan, who was standing nearby, passed out. Haleigh rushed to her, as Nicolas appeared and picked Morgan up, putting her on the couch.

"What was IN that Hemlock??"

She asked, as Nicolas tried to revive Morgan. Soon they were joined by Pandora and Delilah.... and Haleigh noticed Alison and Ava were missing from the group. Haleigh's tone suddenly sounded worried.... she too had noticed the stepping discs randomly opening everywhere....

"WHERE'S my sister??"

<< Karen's fiery glare gradually became less intense, as she continued to listen, still RIGHT in Haleigh's path...the weather around them, the cool wind actually helped to "sweep away" the feeling of chaos that was brewing in the doctor's heart...but MORGAN'S headache, the increasing pain SHE was feeling caused Karen to show signs of discomfort herself.>>

<< it went beyond Morgan being concerned for THEM, it had MORE to do with the problem between Nicolas and Alison. Karen STILL had yet to confront Nicolas for his terrible comments to Alison but that wasnt paramount right now.>>

.....

<< at that moment, Karen realized , as haleigh was speaking that she was being as unreasonable and as unforgiving as ATHENA was to Persephone. not like BEFORE when she was aware of the "lesson"...but FINALLY understanding. Had it been a patient, even someone as repulsive to her as CAMERON, she COULD have seen the CLINICAL explanation for Haleigh's behavior....hell she'd already been able to identify it, but her own feelings a mother, a WOMAN beyond the "perfect and pristine" image she portrayed....and the two sides of her collided when dealing with Haleigh, with explosive results.>>

<< the winds whistled>>

i'm not..a close minded person. and under other circumstances....it probably would have been plain for me to see and understand, but so many other EXTRA factors got in there...we were brought together far closer than a patient/therapist should be by circumstances beyond our control. the objective space was obliterated and becuase of that, my daughter...of ALL of these things...i was NO better at handling this or your behavior than anyone ELSE without the benefit of family ties or telepathy or even mental health credentials could be.

Maybe all we need is just...a little more time....

<< Karen's voice was LOST in the blast of thunder as she jumped with a start, looking at the sky and then the flash of lightning as she FELT Morgan lose her grip of consciousness.>>

Morgan!! honey!

<< Nicolas caught her daughter as she fell, and Karen reached her side, taking one hand into her own. Nicolas indicated she was alive and her vitals were holding...and as she was placed on a couch...>>

Haleigh said:
"What was IN that Hemlock??"

It's not the hemlock...

<< stepping discs, opening at random, intermitent patterns could be seen in the air, on the floor, at various angles etc.>>

I felt...that she had a tremendous headache, probably brought forth by stress....

<< looking at Nicolas...>>

and anger.

<< Pandora arrived with Delilah. Ava and Alison had disappeared and given Nicolas' statement about sensing discs opening randomly all over the island...>>

they MUST have fallen into a disc.

<< they group moved further into the interior of the rotunda up a few small flights of stairs and into a lounge like area. everyone was a bit caught off guard and it showed. one minute they were eating, the next, fights were errupting across the group, now this storm, ava and alison's disappearence and morgan's collapsing..>>

once again...ive come up short. so determined was i...to take haleigh to task...that i left my daughter unattended....and now THIS!

<< she said it softly to herself more than outloud as she sat next to her daughter, clasping her hand and placing the other on her forehead..>>

the stress of the evening...coupled with her hard time adjusting to the whole change...it must have been too much and this is the REACTION. probably...to keep from HARMING anyone as she would have done in the past.

<< Haleigh grew concerned about Ava's whereabouts and Karen quietly reached out via the BOND between mother and child to bypass Morgan's psi screen and try to communicate with her daughter on a deeper level.>>

Morgan? Morgan honey....it's mom. Can you hear me?

Delilah nodded to Nicolas, then focused back on Pandora.

"I can send you back to Minerva's - if that's what you want. If you are sure you'll be safe there."

Haleigh was worried about Ava, understandably, and Karen was beside herself about Morgan.

Despite all that Karen had said to her, she still looked at her as a mother.

"Karen, no - this isn't your fault."

She went to put a reassuring hand on Karen's shoulder, but stopped herself. Something had been broken between them, that had not yet been repaired. Maybe it never would be.

She addressed everyone. "Let's move somewhere more protected - then we can figure out what to do next."

inside the rotunda

<< after a few more moments of trying, Karen blinked her sapphire blue eyes, a sign that she back and centered.>>

no luck. Morgan is unreachable....probably by design.

<< still holding her daughter's hand.>>

her vitals are holding...so it doesnt appear that she's in physical danger....

<< Delilah placed a hand on Karen's shoulder, trying assure her it wasnt her fault.>>

isn't it though?

<< she said with a look of consternation on her face.>>

I'm supposed to be able to help patients find their way...and this is my daughter. i raised her...as a mother, if nothing else I should have been able to better help her adjust...not ADD to her growing distress.

<< Delilah was a caring young woman...she reached out to Karen even though they were not on the best terms. The doctor reached her other hand around to touch Delilah's in a sign of appreciation.>>

<< she moved a bit, turning to Nicolas....a flash of anger in her eyes is seen before she....restrains her self and slowly exhales before looking away from him.>>

now is not the time to address his appalling judgement

<< Delilah offers to send Pandora back to Minerva's via wormhole.>>

no. you can't send her back. Without Alison to protect her, anyone wanting to pick up where Circe left off could attempt to do so now. Until we figure out the next step, she should stay here...we can move deeper into the interior of the Rotunda, it's a structure strong enough to withstand the weather and as long as everyone stays together, there's less chance of someone else falling into a disc.

<< and as the group carefully moved toward the high reaching, circular Apothecary of the Rotunda>>

If Alison and Ava are now in Limbo....if they make a mistep, they could both be lost in layers of time and space .... each passing moment on earth could be days, weeks, MONTHS...YEARS.

Karen was sure it was her fault, and though Delilah tried to convince her otherwise, Karen wouldn't change her mind.

"No, Doctor, it isn't. If Morgan's stressed enough to pass out, it'll be due to a myriad of things. And even if it were YOUR fault, now would not be the appropriate time to assign blame."

She says firmly, not leaving any more room for discussion about that point. The wind continues to whistle through the opening, ruffling the hem of Haleigh's dress as she stands and takes a moment to look out into the storm. What she was looking for was anyone's guess. Rain begins to fall and with the wind comes a mist that lightly covers Haleigh before she steps back and gestures to marshal the group.

"Karen, could you lead us into a more fortified part of the Rotunda, please? Nicolas, carry Morgan, leave the sofa where it belongs. Pandora, stay close... I don't think you're a target but Karen's right, the discs are erratic and could swallow any of us. If we're tightly knit then at least we'll have a better of being together on the other side of a disc. Alison and Ava are capable women... I'm sure they'll be able to take care of themselves, where ever they are.... but I'm concerned.... if they ARE in Limbo... my sister's health suffers... we need to find a way to help them get back."

The Rotunda's apothecary

<< and so, quietly and carefully, the group moved, lead by Karen into the apothecary. Morgan is laid gently across a large marble platform with a pillow conjured by Karen placed under her head. The doctor immediately moved a large, intricately designed chair from another table over to the marble platform and sat in it to be near her daughter.>>

<< with everyone now inside the apothecary, they were now in the near center of the rotunda which was fortified and closed out from the outside weather but stepping discs were still popping up at random moments.>>

<< there was an awkward moment of silence among everyone...this wasnt an obvious attack or hostile action and even though Persephone and Harbinger were plenty powerfull, what IF they were In limbo....what if they became lost ON TOP of lost. Persephone could DIE if trapped in Limbo too long and if Harbinger was gone....Pandora was left without a guardian, the entire world was at risk should she be captured or killed, not to mention the many other dangerous artifacts in Minerva's mansion that could bring problems to the world.>>

<< the team needed to calculate their next course of action. the idea of going to Limbo was never a fun one to entertain...>>

Delilah chewed on the fingernail of her index finger, deep in thought. They needed Morgan, needed their leader, but they had to come up with a plan without her it seemed.

She walked slowly over to where Karen sat next to Morgan, and looked down at her motionless form. How many times would this woman have to face losing her daughter? She wanted to do something for her, for them both, but there was nothing. Nothing to do but focus on the task at hand.

"Karen...could you maybe scry for Alison and Ava? Then we'd at least have a starting point?"

Haleigh paced the apothecary, checking out the books on the shelf, eyeing the contents of various bottles. Karen sat near Morgan, visibly worried. Delilah suggested a scrying pool.

"Well.... I think the very BEST thing to do would be to contact Ororo. She's the guardian of the Trinity and the next best person for all things Limbo related, other than Morgan. When Morgan was lost to the seige perilous.... it was through HER that we eventually got Morgan back."

If anyone could help shed light on their predicament, it'd be Ororo. It was possible Ororo could ALSO help them track down Alison and Ava... but first they needed to see what they could do for Morgan.

Rotunda - Apothecary

<< Karen sat beside her daughter, gently stroking her hair, holding one of her hands. She knew that Morgan wasnt in mortal danger, but her collapsing, having an idea of why her daughter passed out and everything ELSE that had lead up to that moment, it had really served to shock Karen into a reflective state. about how unforgiving she was. she looked very pensive as she sat there, until Delilah finally broke her deep thought.>>

Delilah said:
"Karen...could you maybe scry for Alison and Ava? Then we'd at least have a starting point?"

<< Karen hesitated for a moment.>>

Yes...yes I suppose i could.

<< Haleigh suggested that the best course of action would be to contact Ororo. Being that Ororo was the next best being to help the if they had to go through Limbo and Karen nodded slowly.>>

yes...that would be the best thing. But before we call her i can still...find Ava and Alison, IF they have traveled through Limbo and wound up in another time, the scrying glass can see forward/backward through all time and space.

<< as she prepared to stand up, TINKERBELL appeared, seemingly from no where, the enchanted familiar was known for "slipping" in and out of shadows , almost like teleporting. she was intent on being near her mommy as she meowed several times, in typical siamese fashion, before leaping up from the floor to the platform where her mommy lay. she carefully "investigated" her mother, walking gingerly along side Morgan and gently touching her with her nose, her tail swishing back and forth a bit as she looked at Delilah than Karen and meowed a bit more as if to express her own concern before rubbing against Morgan and purring. she was trying her best to be there for her mommy as only she could. she finally curled up, laying down right next to her mother on the platform and seeming to settle a bit.>>

<< Karen smiled at the siamese.>>

yes...you lay next to mommy, keep an eye on her.

<< gently petting the cat, Karen stood up.>>

well...before i go to the scryiing glass, i suppose i should change.

<< without the time or luxury to go all the way to the other wing of the rotunda to change in her own chambers, Karen simply lowered her hands with poise and snapped her fingers. a mystical chime is heard as she changes from her cocktail dress into her flying suit w/cape. she didnt know why she thought it would be THAT long before she would be in her "costume" again.>>

<< making her way to the scrying glass. with so much more space, the massive, circular mystic lens, the Darkhold and most of Morgan and Karen's mystical artifacts were now housed in the Rotunda's apothecary. Karen was one of only a few witches who could succesfully activate the Scrying Glass outside of Morgan.>>

<< as she stood in front of the lens, it began to glow a soft blue shade and hum softly as she begin to gesture, igniting a spell of vision. a soft, mystic sound is heard and after a few moments, Karen seemed to be fully immersed in her magick, but so far...nothing.>>
<< finally after a few more moments, Karen narrowed her eyes intently. the mystic lens began to glow/pulsate changing from blue to white as a haunting wind was heard.>>

I think I've got something.

Nicolas thought for a few moments before speaking, just after Delilah made a great suggestion.

If you could locate them magically, that would be ideal. Then we could all go to retrieve them. Oh, and Mike...

Mike battlesuit teleports onto his body, with his complement of weaponry and analytical gear, down to his goggles.

there you go. Once Karen finds them, we can THEN decide what our next move is.

Nicolas spoke evenly, also not faring well from recent events and resigned to his fate possibly OUTSIDE the SIX...

Karen activated the scrying glass and as it worked in ways known only to her, he waited, off to one side. She looked up after a time.

What did you find Ma?

what they've found

<< If Nicolas was in a place where he felt his future with the six was uncertain, he was not unique. many before him, including Cameron, Haleigh, Alexis, Delilah, Ava and even Morgan shortly before the Inferno, had ALL considered leaving or were prepared for expulsion. but with everyone before and most likely after, things had a way of working themselves out for the best.>>

<< as the doctor seemed to finally find something, her body language suggested that she wasnt terribly happy with the results. as Nicolas asked what she'd found, Karen turned to the side and moved to reveal...>>

chaos

<< the WORLD gripped in a technological and industrial apocolypse...destruction on a massive scale. zoom into New York city....the streets are filled with fire, war and death. sirens wail and gun fire as well as the sound of mutant and metahuman power signatures can be heard. its a all out WAR between humans and mutants/metahumans. >>

<< the six see soldiers, armed to the teeth, with psychic HOUNDS proceeding them...one of the hounds is NICOLAS. the scene shifts and zooms around streets flashing past dead mutants, mutants being cut down , and others doing their best to fight back/escape. the see Alison and Ava, not cross time alternates either. Persephone and Harbinger are running a gauntlet, using their powers to fend off technological and human attacks and a cross time alternate ALYCIA is with them...they are making their way to St. Patrick's Catherdal for cover. ILLUSTRA which now has two massive Sentinels standing guard on either side of it looks abandonned but inside...is the HUB of sentinel data information. The look on Alison and Ava
s faces say it all....this is a nightmare come true>>

<< Ava and Alison have apparently landed in a timeline where the anti mutant sentiment reached a devastating climax, where sentinels now rule the land, psychic hounds help humans find and exterminate mutants and meta humans....and life as they know it is no more. the last image they see....a giant wanted poster which is illuminated by the spotlight of a patrolling sentinel....pictures of every member of the six and their allies past and present.>>

Black Widow: CAPTURED
Foxfire: WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE
Spellbinder: WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE
Dr. Karen Victoria: DEAD
Rampage: CAPTURED
MorningStar: CAPTURED
Prophet: DEAD
Shockwave: DEAD
Tempest: DEAD
Persephone: WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE
Harbinger- WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE
Alycia Barnett- WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE

Silver Swan- WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE
Bane- DEAD

<< they have found Ava and Alison...in a very bad scenario. The scrying glass images begin to fade, leaving the Six with what they've seen.

Delilah stared at the scrying pool in horror. She started to back away, her steps rigid, and not entirely voluntary. She tried to speak, but found her mouth dry, and it was hard to get the sound out.

"What...what is that? That's not...that's not happening here?"

Meaning the world they had just left. But what she really was asking was whether this was all her fault. Had her actions brought this about?

"It, it can't be true..."

Rotunda- Apothecary

<< Karen looked rather pale as she saw the images of the timeline. Delilah was disturbed as well. as the young mutant asked if it could be ture, Karen nodded slowly.>>

true, for that time and place.

<< the images slowly faded as the Scrying Glass returned to its normal state.>>

through limbo, ALL times and places are possible. a myriad of possibilities some closely resembling our own reality and some vastly different i'm sure.

Morgan's born ability outside of her magick, is the ability to telepathically control the discs...the gateways from Limbo to ANYWHERE at ANY MOMENT... as long as she's CONSCIOUS.

Alison and Ava fell into a disc...they HAD to stop in Limbo but they were probably disoriented, no time to even figure out which way was up before they fell into ANOTHER disc...

NOT here. Parallel reality, isn't it?

Nicolas had read all about how universes could be layered, about how maybe each decision leads to a branching off of reality as it is considered what the consequences might be. Until now, it was the stuff of philosophy and quantum mechanics for him, just something that he wondered about, given the amazing company he kept. But now...

Parallel universe, right Karen? How all of this COULD have gone?

Nicolas places a hand on Delilah instinctively to ease her, apparently not fully cognizant that it could have a negative response, given the thoughts he got from her.

Steady girl, its not your fault. Ultimately, those people are making a choice on how to deal with people like us. You can't-

As he saw himself in that timeline, a HOUND, a TRAITOR to his own, Nicolas gasped audibly. Delilah, Mike, Haleigh and even Karen to a much lesser degree (more of an inkling of what it must be like to the non-screened) would feel a pain in the head as Nicolas' SHAME and DISGUST radiated outward in a psychic backlash. The room shook with each increasingly rapid heartbeat as he saw himself as a betrayer to them all, a fulfillment of Alison's prophecy FROM THAT VERY NIGHT. He dropped to one knee as he tried to get himself back together...

Mike watched as Karen harnessed the magic of the scrying glass. He waited until the whereabouts were revealed. He saw an apocalypse, where mutant/metahuman and man were at war. He read the names silently from the WANTED poster and got a chill, not from his own name listed a dead, but Karen's. It hurt to know that she was gone, even if it was not really HIS Karen.

As he watched the scene, he noticed Nicolas as a slave of the captors and turned to the young mutant, sure of what would happen next. He knelt beside the young man, brain on fire, as he tried to help him get it back together. This had happened a few times before Nicolas had joined the Six and so he was expecting it, but never prepared. His nose bled as he wrapped his arm around the young man's shoulders.

C'mon, son. Get it together. Everything will be all right. Karen?

He looked up at the sorceress, his eyes pleading for her to help. Sometimes to Mike it seemed the others forgot that Nicolas was younger than them all, and had been through much less in terms of this sort of thing. He hoped that her disappointment at his words earlier would not preclude her helping him now.

The Rotunda's Apothecary

:: a haunting whispering wind is heard as a wind funnel filled with dried, dead leaves spins into view::

:: Ororo appears, from a shadowed form to reveal herself, her long, silver hair flowing from the wind as it fades, wearing her white "goddess" dress and blue robe.::

:: the apothecary, even from within this massive structure was trembling. Nicolas' was clearly upset and destressed. Delilah, Karen, Haleigh and Pandora were al looking not so certain either.::

Ororo: the actions, the choices we make, determine the lives we live and you've just witnessed one of many possible outcomes from your last caper. it is not YOUR reality...but across the infinite expanse it IS the reality for other versions of yourselves and now, Alison and Ava have fallen into that reality.

:: putting a hand under Nicolas' arm, Ororo gently but directly urges him to stand up, offering something Athena would have said but with less harshness.:

and now, young man, you see a glimpse of what the Harbinger must carry every day of her life, to see any and all realities. what is and what may be...where even the SLIGHTEST course of action can affect all lives in dramatic ways...

:: and as she said that, she looks at Delilah::

It appears you all have a task ahead of yourselves....as do i....

:: looks at Morgan, with Tinkerbell laying near her.::

but before we go any further...there is the matter of Pandora.

<< Karen was transfixed by what she saw. she'd always known there were "other realities, other possible outcomes"...but the danger posed from falling into a stepping disc was now VERY apparent. Alison and Ava were fighting, running for their LIVES in a world TORN APART by violence between humans and metahumans. Sentinels were running rampant...and she herself was DEAD in this timeline.>>

<< she showed surprising restraint as she swallowed slowly after softly replying to Delilah. Nicolas, however did not fare so well and the doctor turned her head just as he began to broadcast his distress unintentionally. the apothecary was trembling....some books fell from their shelves, Tinkerbell's ears went back, her tail swishing noticiably as she looked very uncertain and agitated.>>

<< Mike was showing VISIBLE signs of the effects of Nicolas' feedback as he went to his friend and Karen couldnt help but be concerned for Mike AND for Nicolas as she drew near. she conjured a hankerchief and handed it to Mike, rubbing her hand over his forehead and using a touch of magick to counteract the pain he felt. >>

Nicolas...you're causing physical discomfort among the others..namely Mike....you've got to reign yourself in before you cause damage to the apothecary...or one of the unprotected minds here.

<< she place her hand on his shoulder, taking one of his hands into her own as she attempted to reach him, and REMIND him of the importance of not causing more harm unintentionally. she saw the dismay, the physical reaction...he was really unsettled by what he'd seen. at that moment...Karen's maternal instinct reached out. beneath all the bravado, the wealth, the youthfull zeal...there was a young man, much younger than the women on the team. and for him to see himself as a HOUND, it must have struck him to his core.>>

<< after a few moments, Ororo appeared. Karen exhaled softly, with Ororo here...that would be one MORE crucial piece of assistance, now that it was no longer a possibility but a FACT that they'd have to go to Limbo...but what about Pandora?>>

Ororo....thank the goddess you've come.

<< knowing that Ororo would come if one of the trinity was in distress.>>

Morgan has collapsed and does not respond to any attempts to revive her but her vitals are strong. Alison and Ava..they fell into one of Morgan's discs just as the storm outside began. We've found them...but .....we dont know how we can reach them...without Morgan.

<< Ororo went to Nicolas as well, gently urging him to stand up and to gather his thoughts. hopefully he would never mock Alison's burdern as a precog, but more importantly, he would abandon the foolish idea of possibly leaving the six.>>

and without Alison, Pandora is now vulnerable as are all the contenets in Minerva's mansion.
