Okay, so I'm watching the original right now for the first time. Just noticing that like in the remake, how strong and prominent the "main" character is (played by Jessica Biel) but in this one she's more the screaming terrified noname girl. Any thoughts?

in the original that actress was far from a "no name". her name was Marilyn but i forget her last name.

She'd had several roles before and AFTER TX.

i found that the original was far more DRAINING to watch..even in this day and age...the way it climaxes..the jagged sounds and how they all combine to ADD to the chaos, and you can FEEL the emotional turmoil that the girl is going through as she struggles to escape for her life. My mom said when she watched it (back when it originally showed at theatres) people were getting sick during the whole dinner scene and the climax after that.

i thought the remake tried TOO HARD and the recent prequel with Jordanna Brewster sucked ass too.

I didn't mean the actress per se was noname, I meant that the character does not stick out as an individual as much as in the remake. It was also not my intention to say the remake was better. I just found it interesting the difference in the portrayal of the main female character. The remake paints her as sort of a badass chick, while the original it seems has her more reacting to the circumstance she's been thrown horrifically into. There wasn't as much emphasis on showing her as a strong woman action hero type.

that goes with the times i'm sure. Wes Craven and John Carpenter broke ground with making the WOMAN the heroine while at the same time showcasing scenarios where the killer butched the boys as well as the girls.

i think Hostel was the most recent horror film that i saw where a MAN came out on top in a long time.

While watching the remake in regards to Jessica Biel's character my mind was drawn to 'Wrong Turn' and that of Eliza. To me the characters (not their cirumstances) were one in the same and Eliza came out ahead. Then again I might be slightly bias but hey at least i'm owning up to that fact!
