[ Silver Swan screams...and birds EVERYWHERE respond as they begin to menace the public within the immediate vicinity of the battle zone. the PAIN she feels from that ballistic knife, it still echoes in her body and though she is nearly invulnerable to most conventional weapons, this weapon released a deadly amount of energy that shocked her system and has left her off balance...and after a few minutes, her silver eyes roll up and she falls to the ground....on her side....her silver eyes open with a blank stare.]

[ Bishop was felled by the sonic scream. he may not have anticipated THIS much power from her, but he certainly had done a good job of testing her OUTSIDE the parameters of the danger room. but it was clear that killing her would not be easy at all. he had been wounded and her sonic scream left him barely conscious, but being the trained soldier that he was...he wasnt about to give up.]

[ he'd begun to crawl away form her and while her falling down and seemingly limp again made a perfect opportunity, Bishop would hear TIRES screeching in the front. the sound of wind and rushing chimes (morgan taking to the air) and foot falls...Alycia running at high speed, calling out Sharon's name, with her own custom designed, golden desert eagles drawn and ready....and of course Nicolas.]

[ Bishop would have to rely on his MORE than human ability to escape a situation, just as he did with Arklay Mansion...before he was in over his head.]
 
Sharon's Brownstone

:: Alycia held on as Nicolas sped to Sharon's. everyone bursting from the car and high tailing to where the situation was most critical. Alycia drew forthe her golden, custom designed desert eagles.::

SHARON!!!

:: she called out as she ran along the side of the house, scanning for any signs of an intruder. she looked up as Morgan flew over the roof and signled::

CLEAR on this side!

:: Morgan didnt see anyone from ABOVE either.::

:: she rounded the corner...taking aim and training over every area in her vision and then checking her blind spots.::

CLEAR!

:: she sees the damage to the back of the brownstone... debris everywhere....signs of battle...BLOOD and some silver projectiles, probably sharon's. ::

DAMMIT....

:: she exclaimed as she saw no sign of the intruder. Maybe Morgan or Nicolas might catch something.... she found Sharon nearby...::

Sharon!!!

:: she rushes over...kneeling down to try to check her vitals. there WAS a pulse...but it was faint...irregular. she guessed it was due to her altered physiology. Nicolas would verify....::

She's ALIVE ..thank god!

:: keeping one gun in her hand and battle ready as she looks over Sharon's body....::

no signs of any wounds....

:: until checking the back of her neck...::

correction..a BURN mark...from an energy discharge..and a flesh wound!

we need some HEALING over here!
 
<< Morgan tightened up as Nicolas bellowed what the birds were upset about and he sped them over to SHaron's.....it was a WILD ride but she could hardly care as they all burst out of the car.>>

<< Morgan takes to the air with the sound of chimes and wind... flying up high and over the roof trying to spot the intruder or intruderS from the air...but NOTHING...Alycia signaled clear on the side of the house she was covering and Nicolas no doubt would see or sense anything on HIS side if there was anyone.>>

<< swooping down to land gracefully, she finds Alycia kneeling over Sharon and is informed of the wound on the back of her neck.>>

<< Morgan kneels behind her...and waves her hand in a small gesture, weaving a spell before pointing at the wound...a small stream of sparkling violet energy flows from her finger to the wound and its "kiss" begins the healing process as Morgan gently waves her hand over the wound. a chime indicates the healing process complete.>>


She'll be okay...unless Nicolas can detect anything ELSE that we've missed..... HER BIRDS....where are they? she'll be devistated if we dont heal THEM as well!

Back at Illustra

:: Harbinger watched the holographic simulations that Persephone plotted and agreed with this scenario.::

an excellent observation. play on his weakness...his child like mind and use speed and guile to distract him. but there's one piece that's missing. The spell to .....finish him.

:: she hated that they were plotting the death of this creature KNOWING that Sharon would be in the mansion at the same time.::

Morgan found a spell from the Darkhold that she and I will ignite together. there will be BRIEF moments...where he feels his humanity but it will be as a 6 year old....he will not survive the effect of the spell in anyway...but he will be FREED from this...abomination that he was turned into.

:: she looked at Ava.::

so easy...for us to plot this out. I never thought twice about killing before...but after seeing the memories...the events...I do NOT feel so good about having to do this..even though there's a bigger picture to consider.

I pray that Sharon will be able to forgive us.

:: at that moment...a proximity alarm begins to sound off and Persephone and Harbinger are treated to a view of a large flock of birds flying in the air toward Illustra....Persephone too will feel the collective agitation from the flock...and like Nicolas, she will be able to discern what its about.::
 
As Morgan and Alycia met at the back of the brownstone to discuss what had happened, Nicolas came from inside with a gyrfalcon in each hand. They had survived, but barely, haven taken quite a bit of damage. Nicolas had extinguished the flames in the house as he went to retrieve them, but as he emerged to bring the falcons to Morgan and Alycia, they would notice that his jacket was on fire, though he did not seem to. Tears streamed down his face as he presented them to Morgan.

Please...help.

Morgan and Alycia would see that their breathing was shallow. One had both wings broken, the other just one, but they were clearly in a lot of pain. Not only was Nicolas vexed by their condition, but their pain channeled into Sharon mentally and he picked it up there. As he lay them down, he stood quickly, finally analyzing what had occurred in a stressed scientific mumble.

Multiple detonators...whoever it was did not know who she was NOW or underestimated the HELL out of her. No obvious use of metahuman powers, although it becomes hard to believe that she could be harmed like this by a human... maybe Mike or Alycia, but they're on our side.

Nicolas turned back to the house and began to put it back together as best he could. After a minute of that, he turned, his face hard with anger.

I will have someone finish this cleanup so we can sell this, get her another closeby. Illustra for now would be best until we figure out what is going on. And when we do...somebody's dead for this.

Nicolas lifted up Sharon and waited for Morgan to return them to Illustra. He was already calling for someone to return his car and to get a cleanup crew to the brownstone.

they will be fine...just a little lethargic for the time being. we can put them in a dark, quiet room at Illustra near Sharon.

its a good thing you found them...one LESS source of grief for Sharon.

<< there was nothing left to do but to leave...and quickly. Morgan lifts her hands and teleports the foursome . a disc opens beneath the car out front too and it is whisked back to its spot in Illustra's underground space while Morgan, Nicolas , Alycia and Sharon arrive in the med lab of the war room.>>

Morgan over the intercom: Ava, Alison...our trip was MUCH shorter than we expected. We're back..with Sharon. someone tried to kill her.
 
As Morgan teleported them away, Nicolas switched Sharon to one hand. Once they arrived at the Med bay, Nicolas clicked his tongue and extended his other arm. The Gyrfalcons lazily fluttered over and perched.

He placed Sharon on a Gurney and telekinetically reshaped an IV stand into a large perch for her babies. He faced Morgan.

I will move them shortly, but in here is cooler right now than anywhere else, and she will be much calmer seeing them as soon as she comes to. I have...eh?

The embers on Nicolas jacket ignite his shirt, and a flame licks up as he casually pulls them both off, balling them up to squelch the flame. It is clear to Morgan that he is is a different state right now. His eyes are dark and angry as he CALMLY addresses her again.

Back to the matter at hand, Mike and a crew of his guys should be analyzing what has occurred and cleaning up as we speak. His report will come in minutes, although Alison will probably be able to garner us even more information. He will also handle any...authorities issues.
 
Illustra- war room

:: Alycia looked on with sadness as Nicolas brought forth the wounded birds. He was clearly upset. he had given those birds to Sharon as a special gift. Thankfully Morgan was there to save them from pain and death. as they returned to Illustra and set up in the med lab, Alycia immediately contacted her 1rst officer.::

I want that area sealed off keep the local and state authorities OUT OF IT and tell them its under FEDERAL indvestigation. the less people we have in the mix...the better.

:: Nicolas informed them that Mike and his men will be combing the house for further evidence and clues.::

I'll want a copy of his report and this time, I want Sharon placed OUTSIDE of the city. If there is someone /group responsible for this...they're going to answer to ME.

:: she could tell Nicolas was more than a little agitated, and she too was upset. WHO did this? she would be SHOCKED to know it was the same man whom she had hired to RESCUE Sharon all those years ago!::

:: as the birds seemed to be out of danger and Sharon was now on the gurney... alycia looked concerned.::

she's not responsive at the moment.....which probably means when she DOES come to....it wont be pretty. she'll still be in ATTACK mode.


:: Alycia herself wanted to find the person who did this...and fight them HERSELF.::

someone must really be proud of themselves right now...but if i get a hold of them...there will be HELL to pay!
 
Illustra- War Room

:: after hearing the alert, Alison arrives with Ava.::

:: she knew everyone was allright and that Sharon was stable and her next question...::

Haleigh and Delilah...have they met with this ...Connor St. James?

:: she said it with such disdain and the fact that she was so ABRUPT with it...seemed to suggest there was more to it.::

:: she had a grim look on her face...the same one she had the night she disappeared and was later revealed to have KILLED Victor Klein after his attack on Alycia at the courthouse during his trial.::

Ava and I have done all we can to prepare for the next journey to the mansion. the rest is in your hands...

:: referring to their conference with Sharon. she stood with her arms folded. it seemed cold of her...but her mind was already focused ahead on other things..namely this Connor character, who was fast beginning to look like the "seed of trouble". But she wouldnt say anything yet. she had to see this for herself.::

:: with no one else being aware of it, Alison "broadcasts" to Haleigh and Delilah. a pair of disembodied cobalt blue eyes opens before them::

to Haleigh and Delilah: Morgan, Alycia and Nicolas are back. Someone just tried to murder Sharon at her brownstone but she fought them off. She was injured but Morgan has healed her. The brownstone was nearly leveled by detonators....and there's evidence of a battle between Silver Swan and her attacker in the backyard. There's no sign of her attacker and no IMMEDIATE indication that the attacker was a mutant or metahuman. they MAY have been a human with extreme fighting ability , along skill and access to weaponry on par with Alycia...not to mention INSIDE knowledge...

:: the eyes fixed on Delilah.::

Be sure and let me know how that meeting with Connor goes.

:: her tone of voice was cold as hell as the eyes shimmered out of view.::

Luckily the Silver Swan's cries had ended when they did. He had boosted a car, ditched it after a few blocks and slipped into a cab. He pulled out a high-tech looking phone, and read the message from Delilah to meet her at the diner where they had eaten together.

He had walked the last couple blocks, and slipped down and into the basement apartment he kept in that area of town. He quickly showered, washing the blood off his body, and threw out his torn pants, caked with dried blood. His wound had closed, but he was still walking with a slight limp as he made his way to see Delilah.

He expected news reports soon that Sharon Kelly was dead...again.
 
[ Not looking back to Haleigh, she got in a last comment before they left the elevator. ]

"Just for the record, YOU are the one who wanted to go to Arklay by yourself."

[ They walked in silence down the city sidewalk until they reached the midtown restaurant Delilah and Connor had eaten lunch together at previously. She chose a booth in the back and slid into the far side so she could see the door.

She wasn’t sure what this was going to accomplish – she expected Connor to say no immediately. If he even met them at all after seeing that she wasn’t alone. She picked up a menu and started looking through it, then glanced over top of it at Haleigh. ]

“I got him a message to meet me here as soon as he could. We might have to wait.”
 
"Mmm.... that I did.... I wonder how THAT would have turned out."

Halfheartedly referring to going into the mansion alone. Alison appeared to them, warning them about an attempt on Sharon's life.

"It was only a matter of time, really.... once she showed up on the news. Plenty of people commend her vigilante justice.... but there are too many abusive husbands in this world to get them all. It's likely one got to thinking he would be next.... thought he could beat her to the punch. OR..... Mystech's trying to tie up loose ends. You're REALLY one of us after somebody's tried to kill you. I'll welcome her to the fray later.... we've got a mercenary to meet."

Haleigh walked with Delilah to the diner, sharing a comfortable silence. Now that they'd made the important things clear, neither of them needed to fill the silence. Delilah led them to the back of the place, and sat with her back to the wall. Not wanting to seem further paranoid, Haleigh sat across from her, her back to the door and casually opened a menu as Delilah warned that they may have to wait.

"I'm a patient woman, Delilah.... I've had to lie in wait for DAYS on recon missions, back in my Navy days. So..... what DO you know about this guy? I'm looking at his service record.... it's exemplary... he was a very good Marine.... but you said something about him being at odds with 'the department'."

Delilah and Haleigh had often clashed on ideals and methods before...seemingly more like oil and water than anything else but in truth, they were the two best suited deal with this man. They'd seen in the vision how even Alycia was EASILY agitated by the man and how he railed against her bossy attitude...but would the relationship between Delilah and Connor flush one or BOTH of them out in front of Haleigh NOW at this meeting? There was also the matter of him hiding his still FRESH wound from his battle with Silver Swan and with both women having been informed of Silver Swan's attempted murder by Harbinger...if he wasnt carefull...Haleigh or Delilah MIGHT be able "connect the dots.">>

<< Harbinger was displaying a rather withdrawn attitude in the War Room with the recently returned members of the Six. it was a pattern that only Morgan and Alycia had been around long enough to recognize. Alison was actually helping to fullfill her own prophecy to Ava from several nights back, when lines would drawn between her and specific members of the Six as she came closer to the truth. She'd made the right move in coming to Ava FIRST, who would ultimately back her play when push came to shove...but she either didnt factor in, or didnt give place to the fact that Morgan would be placed in a bad position....stuck in the middle of her "sisters", Alison and Delilah. It was times like THIS that Blaze WOULD be very helpfull. her own nature to be able to BALANCE no matter how infuriating the situation.>>

<< Morgan and Alycia sat by Sharon...on either side of her. Both women were visibly vexed that not only had they not gotten there SOONER to stop the attack, but that they couldnt find any sign of him...or her...or them. Bishop may have thought he could handle anything, but could he handle a rampaging demon sorceress or a vengefull federal agent with a blood thirsty streak to rival any one on the Six? even RAMPAGE was forced to FOCUS when he kept Spellbinder from attacking Black Widow during the Silver Swan's initial return.>>

<< TV reports began to come in about "an explosion" on the posh upper east side. a brownstone sustaining severe damage, birds behaving erraticly and menacing the locals and strange sounds that caused interference in media devices...computers, cell phones, tv's and more....[Silver Swan's sonic scream]. it was noted that the person who lived in the brownstone, and MUST have been high profile, was not confirmed to be dead or alive...but that there were no bodies found AND that the area had been roped off...it was now under federal investigation. a publicity still of Alycia Barnett flashed across the screen as it was reported SHE and "Force Works" were in the area leading the investigation and that the possibility of a "Terrorist attack" was ruled out. >>

<< Still Connor hadnt gotten what he wanted. Silver Swan was probably not dead AFTER ALL and Alycia Barnett was now involved, which meant "The Six" were involved as well. Things were prooving not so easy to "wrap up" as he expected. and NOW he had to deal with Delilah and Haleigh.>>
 
[ Delilah made her best effort not to roll her eyes. Haleigh used “back in her Navy days” like old men talk about their high school football days. ]

[ She put down the menu and took a sip of water as she nodded. Setting down her glass carefully she looked up at Haleigh. ]

“He and I don’t exactly share the same definition of…justice. Family was murdered by Viktor Klein. Wife, two kids. He alone survived the hit. I wouldn’t mention it – it’s a sore subject understandably.”

[ She checked her phone for messages, but nothing. ]

“The department has had problems with a vigilante…swooping in in the middle of busts, getting to perps before the force could. Only murderers, mostly mob connected. He’s been caught a few times – did more damage on the inside than he did out. He’s become the stuff of urban legend around the force. Then I met him. Killed a mob hit man while I was in the middle of arresting him…”

[ She folded her hands in front of her on the table and studied them for a second. She looked intently up at Haleigh as she continued. ]

“He believes the entire justice system has failed – an eye for an eye, that’s the only true justice. He believes he is protecting the innocent by killing the killers. So no one else has to go through what he did. He lives only to punish the guilty.”
 
"Well, the justice system IS flawed. Some guilty people get away, some innocent people don't. Even if we managed to work out the kinks there, the prisons are overpopulated and, as so-called correctional facilities, are virtually just ineffective. Worse, it seems to be a growing trend that folks are coming OUT worse than they go in. Sure, it's a great IDEA.... if only it worked as well as it seems it would."

She shifted in her seat to uncross and recross her legs, still poring over her menu as if it were what she was really focused on. She wasn't just making conversation.... she was getting a feel for St. James before she actually had to meet him. If his actions were motivated by the death of his family, then money would be of no circumstance, so offering him a hefty check for a tour of Arklay would be unsuccessful. No.... Haleigh would have to get a little more personal than that.

"Shame about his family. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of people hurt by Klein. Good thing we got him taken care of..... too bad St. James didn't get to do the honor himself. [pause for thought] Alright. Another vigilante.... at least we know he and Sharon will get along nicely. I guess we can scratch his name off the suspect list for the failed attack on the Silver Swan."

it doesnt get any easier for her...or us. Hopefully Mike will give us some clues as to who did this. Alycia can go after them and bring them down and that will keep US out of it and make her look good for those who want to see her fail.

those birds...where did you find them, Nicolas? i dont believe i've ever seen any like that before. they are pretty...but kind of...creepy at the same time....so large!

I hope Haleigh and Delilah have some luck dealing with this Connor character. how did you even FIND him all those years ago, Alycia? He didnt seem to have much of a personality even then.
 
Nicolas was sitting quietly, watching the women before him as Morgan corrected the so-called occult book. She asked him about the Gyrfalcons, noting their unusually large size.

I still maintain contacts with several scientific colleagues around the world. That combined with my father's old connections to people who still practice falconry led me to a gentleman who actually has combined the two. This pair is an artificially inseminated mixture of Gyrfalcon with Golden Eagle, a pair of normally natural enemies. The size and hopefully longevity should be enhanced while these birds will be unusually agile for their size. A pairing of the best of both worlds. One problem: they WERE quite difficult to handle. Sharon's connection to them has calmed them considerably and they have already been adequately fed, so they should be fine right now. If you would prefer, I can hood them.*SIGH* Mike should be getting back to me any time now.

Nicolas stands and walks over to the pair of birds, clicking his tongue and reassuring them a bit. He calmly pulled a small makeshift hood over each raptor as he spoke to them calmly.

Mommy will be up soon. Just relax.

Nicolas' phone beeped softly and he answered it.

Yeah, I'm ready. Send it to the laptop. *closes the phone* Mike is sending a written report for your reading, Alycia, as well as transmitting notes for all of us to hear.

Nicolas teleported his laptop to the room and opened it, quickly locating the audio file from Mike.

Evidence form the blasts and subsequent fight scene suggest that a single perpetrator somehow eluded the birds and placed detonators strategically around the house. He detonated them, actually driving her out the back woth the balsts in the event that she somehow survived, The perp then not only evaded her projectile attack, but he seriously wounded her and managed to survive her sonic attack before escaping. Had Sharon not been...augmented, she would undoubtedly be dead.The job was professional to a degree almost unheard of, and was carried out from the neighboring house. In my opinion, you either are dealing with a teleporter on the level of Nic or Morgan with stealth abilities beyond what they have currently shown capable or you are dealing with a non-powered human of the highest ability. I doubt that I could place THAT many explosives around a house without alerting those birds, especially since their is NO evidence of them being drugged or otherwise distracted. I am compiling a list of possible perpetrators and eliminating them as I go. Alycia the written report for your eyes only is a bit more detailed and contains a list of possible perpetrators, but that unfortunately is the gist of what we have found. Call if you need anything. I will now initiate cleanup inconjunction with the federal team. Mike out.

The report not only was a thorough and detailed rendering of what had occurred, but it showed that Mike and Alycia had formed a comfortable working relationship in the last few months since she had a chance to check his credentials.

we have a project that we're working on at the pentagon, involving the training of "anti personnell hawks"...the birds are almost the same size as these and are trained for a variety of tasks, including warding off airborn metahumans.

:: Nicolas explains the origins of these strange birds, she wonders if there are MORE like them as he covered their heads.::

the government would be more than thrilled to include birds like these in the "anti personnell hawk" program.

I dont care what she's become...I'll be there for her. She's still my best friend and i'll BUST THE BALLS of the person responsible for this.

:: it was hard for Alycia sometimes. she could clearly see the need to "CONTROL" mutants/metahumans who would terrorize the weak and defensless, not to mention threaten national security, but on the other hand...unlike some of her colleagues on capitol hill...she had FACES behind the "mutant menace". they arent ALL bad...and some of them risk their lives DAILY for the world over despite their often maligned status.::

no, it doesnt get any easier....for ANY of us, Morgan....and with Alison's vision....I've never felt more BOXED IN than i do now.

:: Alycia had consistently been covering for this team since its birth. She'd risked her career, her reputation and life more than once....only RECENTLY had it begun to take its toll on her, but recent events had made it possible for a major breakthrough and reocvery for Barnett. however, the POLITICS of "mutant activities" was gaining ground on Capitol Hill and Alycia was MORE than pulled into it by her position alone, not to mention the rumours and "reputation" that swirled around her.::

:: speaking of "reputation", Morgan asked about Connor and how Alycia had ever found him.::

:: she sank back into the chair a bit as she exhaled slowly.::

To tell you the truth, I was kind of sloppy about my inquiries back then. I didnt know what i was doing...but i was still so GUNG HO in my quest to bring down the insurance company that killed my father...i had caught the eye of several "contacts" along the way. You cant just walk into a room and ask for a "gun for hire"...and when Sharon told me where her husband was taking her and Kyle to...she was downright FEARFULL. I'd never heard her sound like that before...i told her that I'd "help" and after that, I called in some favors for protection.

Connor was a prick from the moment he arrived. BUT he went into the mansion unwavered and he saved Sharon. He tried to find the others, but there was no way for him to cover the mansion on his own with Sharon in his arms. He DEMANDED that i not go to the mansion then....what did i know back then? i was young and thought i'd live forever.

:: laughing half heartedly::

the fact that he would not ALLOW me to call the police...he must have been spooked HIMSELF because he even told me to FORGET the remainding balance i was to pay him for his services. He provided me and Sharon with safe passage out of the forest....to a bed and breakfast off the road, where you , haleigh and i rendevouzed this last time, and he disappeared before i could even thank him for saving Sharon.

I never saw him again after that. I dont even know if he's still alive at this point. He seems like the type of person that Haleigh would have run across at least ONCE in her dealings through the years...especially after the inception of Clandestine Inc.


:: at that moment Mike contacts Nicolas, and he provides the complete report. Alycia leans forward and reviews the visuals and listens.::

someone so thorough, and so willing to go OVER THE TOP just to kill Sharon? well for starters, we can eliminate any "average criminal" because the general populace still believes Senator Sharon Kelly to be DEAD. No one has connected Silver Swan to Sharon. This is someone with INSIDER knowledge and that means....they probably know she has super powered FRIENDS too. they must require a special diet. I bet Sharon was thrilled to receive them. it seems very appropriate that with her new identity and powers, that she have these birds as her companions. she may even bring them into battle with her sometimes.

You know best how to handle the public side of this, so I'm not going to say anything about that, but i DO think its a good idea to have Sharon relocated outside the city. [ Haleigh gave her own view of the justice system - the system Delilah had devoted her career to. It probably was a good thing, though. With Haleigh viewing Connor more as an ally than a criminal, they had a better chance of enlisting his help. Which was not to say that Delilah wasn't nervous about this meeting between Connor and the woman she argued with most often on the Six. Haleigh always spoke her mind...lord knows what she would say here. ]
