I recently (out of sheer boredom) re-read Avengers Disassembled. my contempt for Brian Michael Bendis will never know any limit...i think what he did with the scarlet witch was pathetic and beyond lame HOWEVER, i must credit Disassembled with: bring Ms. Marvel BACK to the Avengers and to the forefront of Marvel; allowing me to see Lionheart aka Captain Britain in a more competent , capable role than what she was portrayed in the new Excalibur series; the accurate nods to past storylines toward the end of the story.

the artwork wasnt too bad either...but to give the scarlet witch the kind of power to destroy a team...we've seen that before with Dark Phoenix and I think Dark Phoenix would have MOPPED THE FLOOR with the Scarlet Witch.

House of M, which was born from the events of Disassembled, was garbage as well..HOWEVER, FROM THAT, came the return of MAGIK and that is probably the only thing I am most greatfull for from that storyline. and "M Day" actually cleared away alot of the POINTLESS mutant characters created by that numbskull Grant Morrison...so that helped too.

Does anyone know the CURRENT status of the Scarlet Witch? I know that Clint and she slept together in New Avengers and Beast attempted to contact her during the events leading up to Messiah Complex but where is she NOW? If they dont ever force her to given an accounting for what she did...that will be the greatest unanswered question in Marvel SINCE the endless speculation on Magik's status following the conclusion of the horrid "soul sword trilogy".

M-day was one of the worst mistakes they made IMO, depowering over 90% of the mutants and wiping out Morrison's run (which with the exception of the last arc with Xorneto was great) was a weak move. For me it ruined the feel of Academy X/New X-men and the idea mutant births were on the rise, with normal humans dieing out was an interesting plot point for especially for the X-books.
Avengers Disassembled just like House of M wasn't the best book to be honest, the tie-ins were much better then the the main story story in both cases. (Thor Disassembled and House of M Fearsome Four alone were way better and FF probably should have been done as a What Ifs just so they could be revisited).
As for Scarlett Witch shes still in whatever Eastern European village Hawkeye found her in "living" with her aunt Agatha. She doesn't have a clue what she did or that she was even a superhero. It also seems she doesn't have her powers either. Now with Secret Invasion on the way it might look like she wasn't completely responsible for decimation.

i totally disagree with you on Morrison's run being "Great"...he introduced scores of useless characters. probably the ONLY ones that were worth keeping where the Cuckoos (which turned out to be a weapon x project) and Quinten Quier (Kid Omega...why did it seem that some artists drew him with more ethnic or "black" features and others drew him looking more "white"?). When you have characters like DUMMY and MARTHA and Herman Glob (or whatever his name was)....there's a problem. LOL not to mention Frank Quitely...with his NON DRAWING self.

I was one of those people who felt that 'mutants' were losing thier uniqueness in the marvel universe and Morrison was among those responsible for cheapening and perverted the legacy of PHOENIX.

Disassembled upset me because it totally threw out the concept of "Chaos Magick" which was established by Agatha in Avengers Vol. III (Best damn volumn of avengers i ever collected) and for WHAT PURPOSE? Wanda, in Volume three FINALLY had a sense of herself and her powers! she even LEAD several rosters of the team in Volume III and handled herself better than she EVER had in the last 20 years. Then suddenly she went round the bin because Janet mistakenly mentioned her children? She goes from being a magick user to a reality warping mutant? Agatha had explained in volume three that had she not been born under the red moon that she would have been simply another energy manipulating mutant like her father but because of the time of year and under the moon which she was born, she was given the gift to channel a form of magick.

many things were contradicted in Disassembled and there were no solid explanations other than "because Doctor Strange said so"

Yes i knew Scarlet Witch was still in eastern europe. She slept with Hawkeye (whose death she was responsible for LOL). and Agatha is alive once again (i think she's running neck and neck with JEAN for resurrections at this point) and Beast has had recent contact with her. I was just wondering if anything MORE had happened with her. I really hope someone holds her responsible for what she did.

The useless characters were half the fun of the book. If you took them seriously then they could be seen as moronic but taking it as the jokes they are funny funny guys. How exactly did Morrison "pervert" the Phoenix? For most of his run he didn't even focus on the Phoenix he was more writing Jean Grey.

On Disassembled I'm calling it now the 2 kid that were pretend to be Wanda's children were Skrull agents and as for the big bucket of crazy herself i think in one of the "Young Avengers Present" books Wiccan and Speed are either looking for her or going to meet her. I don't think Agatha is really alive BTW, most we saw of her was the Norman Bates moment with Hawkeye and he decided it wasn't worth the therapy bills to actually look so I'm thinking shes still dead.

That bothered me the most about Dissassembled, more than just Agatha Harkness have commented on Chaos Magick being all-too real. It is one of the fundamental energies used by Nexus beings like Wanda and Franklin Richards. I know Mephisto and Doctor Strange have mentioned it's existence long before Dissassembled (or at least I think so) as well as Chthon, The Time Keepers, The High Evolutionary, Hank Pym (indicating that Chaos Magick was currently the only way to affect Ultron's main power source which makes him as strong as he is) and so many others.

For Doctor Strange to suddenly come out and say Chaos Magick does not exist does not make sense, it's almost as stupid as Reed trying to explain that the Uni-Power was like an incredibly advanced computer. I think we need a second opinon...anyone got The Living Tribunal's home line?

because up until Morrison, the 1986 retcon stated that Phoenix II and Jean Grey were NOT the same person. PRIOR to that, Phoenix II was widely believed to have been Jean (thats the way Chris Claremont had wanted it) and Phoenix III (Rachel) was supposed to be Phoenix II's daughter (which she is..from an alternate timeline as it was the only way Chris could get around that).

Jean Grey herself is actually Phoenix IV but aside from that SPARK of the Phoenix she absorbed from Madelynne Pryor, she was NEVER Phoenix (meaning she didnt have the power OF Phoenix) and yet Morrison attempted to suggest that Jean had "ALWAYS BEEN PHOENIX" and he stated HIMSELF in an interview that he wanted to "get away from the Dark Phoenix saga backstory"....he made it so that the "phoenix power" was Jean Grey's MUTATION. what kind of SHIT was that? so suddenly he sweeps away 20 + years of continuity to say that Jean has ALWAYS had a link to the Phoenix and that was her "Secondary mutation"? that was just cheap and a total disregard for continuity and disrespect for one of the best damn stories in MU history, the Dark Phoenix saga.

Chaos Magick has been mentioned in some of the past Marvel Universe Index issues as well among the many magick users and those "update '88 or '89" issues made mention of it.

i think we need to teleport Bendis and Quesada into a black hole :D
