Nicolas cut her off gently, offering his hand to her.

My name is Nicolas King, and it's no bother. The day a man refuses an opportunity to be of some small help to a pretty lady is officially the end of civilization as we know it. I own most of the shipping interests here and there is plenty of room and plenty of steak at my home. So Haleigh Davidoff, do we have a deal? Dinner and harmless company it is?

Nicolas smiled back at the young lady. He could tell that she was not blown away, but she was at least intrigued by what she saw. No problem. At worst it would still be an evening well spent.

one final moment

<< it was curious evening to say the least. while fog was not uncommon for thunder bay, this fog seemed to bring with it the whisper of something more to come. sharon "heard" it, delilah "saw" it and morgan, karen and alison all "felt" it. even the stranger who hoped to be "passing through" felt uneasy as her unusual gifts put her in synch with the malfunctioning mechanical systems of this little town.>>

<< but Nicolas should have been more astute himself.>>

<< as he charmed his passenger, the fog seemed to be pulling back from the town more quickly than it had flown in, as if it had come to survey and was now taking its leave. the eerie disturbances were fading and quiet was returning, but as Nicolas drove further inward....he was touched by a presence...a VOICE that he would know too well..>>

the presence of ALYCIA BARNETT: Nicolassssss.....

Nicolassssss

<< the fog was receeding now, flowing over his truck.>>

<< alycia's ghostly , eerie sounding voice was heard plainly by him, but only registered as eerie wind to Haleigh.>>

whispers and sounds...more than just her voice...the voices of spirits that are awakening more and more ....and what they feel...what they want...is REVENGE!

<< suddenly, the tranquility of Nicolas' car is shattered as ALL the windows from the front to the back are BLOWN OUT around him and Haleigh and his car SKIDS out of control, SPINNING OUT.>>

<< the fog continues to receed as the truck spins out...pulling back out toward the ocean and fading...leaving Nicolas and Haleigh to come to a frenzied stop, both shaken and taken by surprise, with NICOLAS touched to his core by what he just heard...what he just FELT.>>

<< for Haleigh, it was another sign that perhaps...she'd taken a "WRONG TURN" passing through this town, b ut there was nothing she could do now but at least wait until morning. better to be in the relative saftey of someone's home than to be out in a dark place like this.>>

<< across the ocean waters of Arklay Pointe, the fog horn plays its mournfull tone as the midnight hour passes...and the town, ruffled by the unusual occurrences, seems to settle back to sleep....a false comfort.>>

:: Blissfully unaware of the incoming fog....and pending danger, Ava bit her bottom lip trying to surpress a moan. ::

"You certainly know how to use your hands Mr. Andrews..."

:: A playful smirk grazed the goddesses lips as a gorgeous man moved his way up from....below ;) and began to kiss her bare neck. He was the rugged type....long blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, a body to die for. Morgan may have been quick to dismiss him, but Ava was certainly game! ::

"Mmmm...and you're not so bad either."

:: ANOTHER man moved upward, kissing Ava's stomach along the way. He was the clean cut lawyer type. Short brown hair, dark blue eyes....a body fit for a king. She couldn't choose whom she wanted to take home....so she took them both! :D Like any goddess, Ava LOVED being worshiped, and these two certainly worshiped her well. ;) ::

:: Giggling with delight, suddenly the blairing sound of car alarms could be heard coming from outside. Not just HER car, but multiple throughout the neighborhood. The two men didn't flinch and continued what they were doing, but Ava lowered her brows seeing a thick white fog consume her window. As a manipulator of the weather, this was not natural...... ::

:: Seemingly on cue, Ava's cell phone began to ring. Reaching over one of the men, Ava look on the caller ID seeing it was Morgan. ::

"Fun's over boys!"

:: Morgan would never let her live this down if she knew their 'playing hard to get' that evening was more, Morgan playing hard to get and Ava taking half the bar home. :p ::

"Out! Hurry up....the weather looks like it's getting bad. [shooing them with her hand] Go!"

:: As the men picked up their cloths from the floor in shock and disappointment, Ava waited a couple more seconds until they exited her bedroom. Finally, she picked up the phone. ::

"Hello?"

:: Climbing out of her bed, Ava moved to her bedroom window, noticing the fog had gotten thicker....::

"I know it's you, whore. [pausing] Do you see this fog...it's insane."

LMAO! Ava LOVED being worshiped.
at Morgan's mansion

<< FINALLY she answers the phone, sounding a little OUT OF BREATH. Morgan narrows her violet eyes as she turns to face her picture window in the sitting room looking out onto the street.>>

Ava said:
"I know it's you, whore. [pausing] Do you see this fog...it's insane."

<< Morgan rolled her eyes and waved her hand dismissively.>>

oh yes, and i see you're still WIDE awake...probably WIDE OPEN too. Why ELSE would you be out of breath when answering the phone at this time of night?

<< asked with lingering sarcasm as she smirked.>>

<< as Ava remarked on the fog, Morgan's facial expression sobered a bit.>>

hmm yes. and all those damn horns and alarms?? i thought it was some of those drunken dock boys at the bar rampaging through the neighborhood, but then i realized, they probably were on their way to YOUR HOUSE and wanted to let YOU KNOW!

<< she laughed smugly, zinging Ava yet again. It was something the two debutants often did to one another, but it was all in good fun.>>

<< But Morgan was also trying to distract from the feeling she'd gotten when she first saw and felt those lingering traces of the fog in her own room.>>

But really though, i just wanted to make sure you were allright. I checked on Blaze. I'm calling my mom next...she's probably already on the phone with Delilah...if that square MIKE isnt in her house AGAIN

<< Morgan was among the elite few who knew of his courting her mother. He treated her right and so Morgan hadnt felt the need to teleport him into the ocean...YET but she still didnt quite approve of her mother seeing a plain ordinary MORTAL. He could only go SO FAR with her before reaching a limit that most normal "Flatscans" had.>>

<< looking outside ...things SEEMED "calm" but Morgan felt something inside her that dampened her otherwise shallow and superficial mood>>

Ava...do me favor...don't go outside tonight okay?

<< she continued to look to the east, toward the water.>>

:: Scoffing softly, Ava rolled her eyes as Morgan suggested she was out of breath. ::

"I was in the BATHROOM....I ran to get the phone."

:: A lie which Morgan would clearly see through, but Ava was admitting to nothing. :D Looking out the window, it was difficult to even SEE the cars, let alone tell which car alarms had been set off. ::

hmm yes. and all those damn horns and alarms?? i thought it was some of those drunken dock boys at the bar rampaging through the neighborhood, but then i realized, they probably were on their way to YOUR HOUSE and wanted to let YOU KNOW!

"PLEASE, I can't help they were running from your GENERIC blonde ass and happen to find me. Men just flock my way, sweetie. You should realize that by now."

:: Laughing along with Morgan, their friendship was unique to say the least. Raised with wealth and everything at their fingertips, they were similiar in so many ways, which made them close. Some would think they would be bitter rivals, but the two just 'clicked'. ::

I'm calling my mom next...she's probably already on the phone with Delilah...if that square MIKE isnt in her house AGAIN.

[rolling her eyes] "Ew, he's so poor and....mortal. We need to set your mother up with a wealthy warlock and soon."

:: Smiling to herself, soon Ava's face became more serious hearing Morgan ask her not to go outside. She didn't have to ask....it was far to eerie for Ava to even WANT to go out there. ::

"I won't....[pausing, Ava's body was suddenly overcome with goosebumps] I'll call you tomorrow....Night Morgan.."

:: Shutting her cell phone, Ava wrapped her arms around her body tightly, her face conveying a uneasy expression.....for whatever reason, it felt like someone was watching her...::

Morgan's mansion

<< Morgan smiled with silent relief as Ava assured her she'd stay inside. Though the two were known as superficial rich bitches by "the public" , to those closest to them, there was so much more. Thunder Bay was their secret garden and although both had been out into the world via Morgan's stepping discs or other means of travel...they knew that in a world where mutants and metahumans were not always well recieved, this was the best place for them. a mysterious town for not so ordinary people.>>

Goodnight Ava.

<< Ava promised she'd call Morgan tomorrow evening for whatever plans they'd have to stalk the town and the bars and the best parties. As the two women hung up, Morgan heard the mournfull toll of the fog horn. some how that dreadfull thing could be heard almost everywhere through the town, even as far north as that gothic church where Alison lived.>>

<< she hesitated for a momente, before dialing her mother...>>

<< moving slowly away from the picture window, she checked the doors in the front and the back to make sure they were locked down town. even for a witch and a weather manipulator, there were some things that still brought forth uncertainty, such as fear of the unknown.>>

<< she waited for her mom to pick up...certain that she was either talking to Delilah or that dreadfull Mike...but on a night like this, she'd be gratefull if Mike WAS there. at least her mom wasnt alone. >>

Haleigh smiled, nodding. The wind blew a little more fiercely around them, making noise as it moved through the trees and over the truck, but at least it was clearing the fog.

"Mr. King, you've got a deal."

He offered his hand, and she took it-- but as soon as she did, all the glass in his car EXPLODED, showering them with tiny shards! Haleigh ducked down quickly, squeezing his hand, shrinking away from the glass and ending up practically hugging his shoulder as the truck SPUN OUT, the centrifugal force slid her into him, and it was all she could do to avoid being thrown into his LAP! As the truck spun it began to tilt, going on only two wheels and threatening to ROLL but Haleigh weighted the axles and kept all four tires firmly on the pavement. The truck stopped... silence fell over them and Haleigh sat up straighter, staring at him as if looking for an answer her previously masked expression now showing bewilderment.

"What the FUCK was that?!?"

She asked. Maybe she shouldn't have listened to that trucker who said Thunder Bay was a nice place to pass through. sleepy little town my ASS! she thought, looking around for ANY sign of something that could have shattered glass and spun thr truck.

Morgan's mansion

While the others of the town were awake, Blaze continued to dream blissfully. But even while she dreamed Blaze’s muscles would clench up. Even in her crawled up position, the back of her leg would tighten up around the muscle going into a spasm. The pain awakening her right away as she bolted up in bed. Grinding her teeth together, she grabbed onto the back of her leg to suppress the spasming of her muscle tightening. Flexing her foot up to work the muscle out as the charlie horse hounded her.

As the pain began to subside, Blaze looked around her darkened room. Glancing over towards the window, she frowned. She could have sworn she left her window open as shards of moonlight provided a small amount of light. Tossing the covers off her frame she twisted her bare legs over the side of her bed. The side of her reading glasses had been slanted on her face and her hair was a disheveled mess. Adjusting her glasses, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes while exiting her bedroom to see if Morgan had returned.

The echo of her sister’s voice brought a sigh of relief to the young brunette. Touching her chest where her heart had been stowed she walked along the lengthy hallway. Stopping by one of the large windows she noticed an unusual alabaster fog lingering. Looking more closely she shivered at the eerie crawl of the mist that swept through the town. Goosebumps swam across her olive skin, causing her to step away from the window.

Morgan’s voice was still heard along with Ava’s name. Those two were like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie except more posh. Removing her hair tie, allowing her hair to swoop around the column of her neck, framing her face. Blaze was mindful not to disturb Morgan while she was on the phone. Instead she moved into the kitchen for a bottle of Pellegrino water. Twisting the cap she took a few thirsty gulps.

Blaze went in search of Morgan until she managed to locate her. “I didn’t even hear you get in.” A faint smile crossed her lips, “Another night of endless fun for the dynamic duo?” Chuckling she sunk down onto the nearby wing-back chair. Crossing her leg at the knee while watching her sister carefully, “To tell you the truth I’m relieved your home especially with that creepy fog out there.” Shivering again, Blaze didn’t even want to imagine her sister or Ava driving through that dense fog and getting into a car accident or worse.

Nicolas was smiling back at the young hitcher when he felt it...heard it.

the presence of ALYCIA BARNETT: Nicolassssss.....

Nicolassssss

Nicolas stiffened as he heard the voice. he mentally attempted to reach out, still unaware that it was disembodied, led at this point simply on instinct...

Alycia? Are you TRULY there?

That's when the tires blew, sending the truck into a spin, it was about to list then tip over! Nicolas went to mentally right it, but didn't HAVE to. His new visitor WEIGHTED The tires--he could sense the increase in mass--and righted them as he focused on halting its momentum. They had stopped only a few feet from the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea itself.

You OK?

"What the FUCK was that?!?"

Search me. Look, I live just down the street. Let's hoof it and I'll have the service pick this piece of shit up tomorrow. After all of this, I owe you dinner.

As he checked on Haleigh, he realized two things. One, that the answer to his question was no, that his wife...and OTHERS were calling from the grave. Calling for revenge. But from WHOM? For WHAT? Her death was an accident! Wasn't it?!?

He had one other realization. During the wreck, he was holding Haleigh's hand at what should have been an impossible pressure, although it still represented restraint on his part. She held it back JUST as tight, and her hand showed no ill effects as she took it back.

It seems the night held MANY mysteries for Mr. King...

Morgan's mansion

<< Morgan was pacing a bit around the "sun room" of the mansion as she waited for her mom to pick up.>>

<< she secretly wondered why the fog seemed so eerie. the town had experienced fog BEFORE, but this one...and the strange things that they were immediately aware of, the car horns, alarms, tinkerbell growling and hissing...what did it MEAN? was there a full moon?>>

<< Blaze quietly came from the upper floors and soon found Morgan. The elder sister turned at the sound of her younger sister's voice.>>

Blaze...

Actually, I called it a night early. Ava and I were bored with the scene and the weather seemed unusual...

<< the fog was nearly gone now though>>

yes...the fog was...strange and that's saying something, considering that we're an ocean front town. Didn't you hear the horns? the alarms? the street lights were flashing on and off too. Little Tinkerbell was very upset, it was as if something was in the ROOM with us and she sensed it!

I came to check on you, closed your window as a bit of the fog had gotten in there as well. I just called Ava, and now I'm calling my mother.

<< Morgan always seemed a bit more serious when dealing with Blaze, but ever since their father died, the same not that Alycia, Robert and Cameron also died... Morgan had felt the need to watch out for Blaze. Karen adopted the young woman to keep her closer to the family.>>

Im sure she's fine...she's probably dealing with that...MORTAL...Mike.

<< spoken like a true witch.>>

But i just want to make sure.

<< and so , in the late night, as the town seemed to resettle, Morgan spoke to her mother as Blaze sat nearby.>>

Morg's mansion

Chuckling, Blaze tried to imagine Morgan and Ava bored with the dozens of men that followed them around like a lost puppy. “I find that hard to believe...especially with all of your loyal hordes of men at your every beckoning call.” Another devilish smile was flashed to her older sister, trying to lighten the mood. But even Blaze saw the worry in Morgan’s eyes, which only caused her expression to sober up.

Shaking her head, Blaze glanced out of the window in the sun room, “Oh girl, please, I was dead to the world. You should know I sleep like the dead. But that is strange...” Their town didn’t exactly get earthquakes so that was out of the question. What would be causing the street lights to flicker though? She was beginning to see why her sister was worried. “I didn’t even hear you come into my room, I thought I was going crazy with the window closed. Last thing I remember was reading and I must have dozed off to sleep waiting for you to get home.” This wasn’t the first time Blaze had fallen asleep, waiting for Morgan to return home.

“You know for a mortal Mike looks DAMN good in that uniform and you know it! If he wasn’t with Karen I’d get myself a slice of that hunky cheesecake.”

There was no love loss between Morgan and Mike but the two managed to get along amicably for the sake of Karen. Reaching around the back of the chair to pull the throw blanket across her lap. “Yes...where is Tink? Poor baby is probably on edge.” Blaze adored Morgan’s cat more than anything. She often babysat the adorable feline when her sister was out partying with Ava.

Quietly curled up on the chair, Blaze peered outside once again. Watching the fog drift by while Morgan called Karen.

and so

<< Morgan reached her mother finally and after a short conversation, all parties reluctantly returned to their beds, with the lingering image of a ghostly fog on their minds and the sounds of strangeness echoing in their heads. Across the town from the ocean all the way to the northern hill where the gothic church sits...everyone soon returns to sleep.>>

<< the Thunder Bay weather center could offer further information than the fog had in fact moved against the wind. There were no reported accidents...and the mishap that befell Nicolas and his guest went unknown to nearly everyone.>>

<< Thunder Bay was always a mysterious town...full of unusual people...but this fog pointed to something else far more sinister.>>

<< but for now...it was just a whisper, a haunting suggestion. nothing was certain...not yet. no one could guess that old secrets could come back after so long.>>

<< and so we watch>>
