the somber drive home

Allright Sharon, take care...and you call me if you need anything.

<< Morgan didnt mean money, she meant HELP of another kind. Touching Sharon on her shoulder, Morgan bids her farewell for the evening as she Blaze and Ava leave her ocean front lost and get into Morgan's jag. The drive home was much longer, as Morgan didnt teleport them.>>

<< on they drove, a bit silent at first, before Morgan spoke first.>>

Okay...that was definately NOT fun.

Like..."I have a surprise for you!" and it's not the kind that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy either.

<< she said with irritation before looking at Ava...>>

and why did you bring that horrid thing with you?

<< referring to the snake, which morgan DEMANDED be put in the trunk and kept sedated.>>

if you wanted something long to play with...we could have a few of your NUMEROUS friends over for the evening for a little house party!

<< trying to distract from the gloom that seemed to be all around them.>>

Sharon said she'd take care of it...so we may as well get home. Look at the horizon!

<< pointing to the sea to their left and the eerie color of the sky.>>

another fog coming in? Ava, can you tell?

:: Rubbing her stiff neck as Morgan drove away from Sharon's house, it was definitely not the 'quick trip' the woman had expected to take. Picking up Blaze suddenly turned into a Pirates of the Caribbean mystery plot that no one wanted to be apart of. ::

and why did you bring that horrid thing with you?

[rolling her eyes] "I want to study it. You DO know the word 'study' don't you? Ohhh, that's right, you managed to get through college on your knees."

:: Grinning, Morgan shot back with an equally catty retort about her calling some of her male suiters if she wanted something long. With a smirk, Ava cupped her palm around her cheek in a mock surprised gesture. ::

"What's that I see? You're violet eyes suddenly turning GREEN [with envy]?"

:: Laughing softly to herself, Morgan then pointed out toward the horizon prompting the goddess to look to the sky. Her smile faded noticing the eerie colors in the sky. Morgan asked if she could 'sense' anything....and that was the problem, there was NOTHING out of the ordinery that Ava could feel about the weather. ::

"No....it's just, THERE. I don't sense any storms or weather related anomalies within a fifty miles radius of Thunder Bay..."

the medical examiner

[ Dominique Deveraux was another woman of the town who was respected. On the state's payroll, she was the ME, which was not a job that most could handle but she was definately among the most glamorous of ME's on the west coast ;) she could make conversations about cadavers interesting to even the most uninformed man. her history in relation to Thunder Bay was not exactly known, but she seemed to have familiarity with Nicolas King and Alison Marble. She was well versed in a variety of subjects as well]

[ this evening, she was full of biting sarcasm as Nicolas had "dumped" not one but THREE "presents" on her door step. processing the bodies, authenticating their identities and such was the easy part. the indepth autopsy was the difficult thing, but Dominique was thorough with everything she did.]

Well, when you show up, you certainly don't come empty handed, do you?

[ she spoke toward Nicolas with a steely, elegant tone as she walked around toward the center of the examination lab. she had changed and was now in a tailored lab coat and a black dress underneath. Her raven black hair pulled back in a stylish bun, definately not your run of the mill ME.]

[ After having greeted Karen and the others, the ME proceeded to inform them of what she had discovered.]

This one here, Dick Baxter? [ she moves over to his body as she lifts one of his arms up with her gloved hand.] his wounds are covered with algae, his lungs are full, and there's silt in his fingernails. It's remarkable, I saw Dick Baxter three days ago in Salinas. Now he's lying there on the table looking like he's been underwater for a month. All three of them have similar states of decomposition, algea and such.

[ she lays his arm down and moves on.]

In all three cases, You see the water acts like ice. A whole body would take a year to decompose, longer if it was down far enough, cold enough.

Haleigh: But we found them below deck, not in the water.

Dominique: No. [ she said matter of factly] Dick Baxter died in the ocean.

[turning to Michael] Remember last October those three kids that went diving for that old boat off the pointe. When bay patrol got to them , they had been down a week, maybe ten days. Based on the medical evidence before me, these three here have been down longer.

[ now with her pointer, she begins to discuss the wounds on each person]

Evidence of deep penetrating wounds into each ocular orbit, entering into the cranial cavity. Also jagged lacerations to the face. The right area of his throat has been crushed [pointing at one body]. In all bodies Thorax has been crushed and the lungs are filled with fluid. and Dick Baxter's head was partially caved in, his neck broken but unlike the other wounds, this was RECENT, as in an HOUR ago.

Is there anything that your men forgot to tell me, Michael?

[ knowing that something had happened to one of the bodies, perhaps it had been MOVED etc. She didnt know that Haleigh had "attacked" the body out of reaction to it falling on her. Indeed, none of them beside Nicolas knew that Haleigh had special abilities like many of those in the room. ]

[ turning to them as she collapses her pointer.]

Ladies and Gentlemen, I havent seen anything quite like THIS, since...the accident involving Alycia Barnett, Christopher Victory, Cameron King and Robert Kelly.

Whatever happened to them...according to all man made chronological instruments took place within a 24 hour period, but the medical evidence suggests a MONTH at least of being submerged underwater and the physical damage suggests foul play and yet...none of you can provide any proof of that?

getting closer to home

<< Morgan "fake laughed" as Ava ribbed her. the two never missed an opportunity to give one another a hard time, but it was all in fun. But as Ava remarked that she couldnt sense anything and that the eerie color over the horizon out to sea was just THERE, Morgan decided to speed up a bit, just because she felt like they needed to make tracks.>>

I wonder if Mike is going to appear out of no where again and pull me over.

<< rolling her eyes.>>

Do you want to go home tonight or do you want to crash at my place?

<< thinking for a moment.>>

On second thought, with your new little friend in the trunk, maybe you should go home. I wouldnt want to deprive you of "studying" yet ANOTHER long, dark object that you claimed to have never seen before.

<< zooming along, dusting up some dried leaves as she goes around a bend.>>

but personally, I need a cocktail...and i don't feel like dealing with "the public" at the beverage emporium. I'll just conjure up some things for us. After a day of shopping and the spa, the last way i wanted to cap it off was by seeing a damn snake!

It's enough to make me want to call NICOLAS...

Oh yeah, and We dont want to miss Sharon's broadcast, she's supposed to be updating the town on the status of the Valiant.

:: 'Fake laughing' back at Morgan because of her little comment, Ava smirked before suggesting to part ways for about an hour before meeting up again. ::

"Why don't you drop me off at my place, i'll get the snake situated, then meet you for drinks back at your place in about an hour?"

:: Looking down at the digital clock on Morgan's car dash. ::

"It will be right before Sharon does her broadcast, so that's perfect."

:: Deciding not to let the weather dictate her evening, she was planning on enjoying it as if everything was peachy keen. Hopefully it stayed that way... ::

The ME confirmed.... all the bodies were in a state MUCH like those found on Nicolas' wife's boat. The similarities were so close that Haleigh would be comfortable saying the two events were linked without still feeling like she was jumping to conclusions. Haleigh glanced at Nicolas, concerned about how he might be taking it.

The ME said that they'd died underwater.... and Haleigh knew that they had.... she KNEW the boat had been underwater for some time, it showed stress markers congruent with a shipwreck. Still, she told the ME about their find, just to confirm her theory about them being submerged.

"But we found them below deck, not in the water."

Dominque said NO.... he died underwater... and Haleigh nodded. It was congruent with what she knew about the tugboat. The ME further discussed the injuries, but also noted postmortem injuries that Haleigh herself had inflicted. Haleigh offered a reasonable explanation.

"While we were..... searching the cabin... the ship pitched rather violently. Objects were thrown about.... it was after all the chaos that we discovered the bodies of the crew. The postmortem injuries were likely sustained during that time."

More truth that wasn't COMPLETE truth..... she didn't miss a beat, omitting her involvement [and Nicolas' as well] in such a suave manner, SHE almost believed it. The ME fished for answers from them... any kind of PROOF of what happened. She was certain the state of decomposition in the bodies did NOT match the timeline.

"What evidence WE have is a ship that shows damage consistant to what you've found in the bodies. I got a pretty GOOD look at it.... the engine was hydro-locked, as if it had been running WHILE it sank... there was water pressure damage to the gauges and instruments in the captain's cabin, seaweed in the interior compartments... significant VIOLENT hull damage and rust formation that would have taken a few WEEKS to reach the severity it was in. And yet.... the Valiant and its crew checked in on time at every established checkin interval yesterday and pulled the last freighter ship out of the harbor just after sundown. Whatever happened to this ship... this crew.... was not NATURAL by ANY measure."

the ME's office

<< The ME had offered masks to anyone who wanted them. Karen took one. Unlike Nicolas, Mike or Haleigh it seemed, Karen was not "used" to this. When She had to see her husband in this very same morgue, she nearly fainted from being sick and distressed.>>

<< as she listened to the ME, she showed visible signs of discomfort...what was being said here was similar to what had been said when Alycia, Christopher and the others had been found....but what was worse, the evidence that this was somenthing FAR from natural was now looming too large for her to dismiss. Haleigh all but stated that.>>

But how is this POSSIBLE? I have no doubt that Doctor Deveraux is well qualified and that she's telling us the truth, but Nicolas and Miss Davidoff saw the boat for themselves...we have two compelling sets of facts...but they dont...they CAN'T connect!

THe families of these people...are going to want an explanation....

<< Karen realized...that Alison may have been RIGHT. This was TOO similar to what happened to Alycia's yacht to be a coincidence or MERELY an accident. she looked at Delilah, a bit flustered, but trying NOT to come undone in front of Haleigh, the new comer of the group.>>

off the record...I think we could be dealing with something...supernatural. There is one person in this town who has held to that since the last time most of us had to gather in this room together. perhaps she was right after all.

Nicolas zoned a bit as Dominique began, his mind on what he already knew about the bodies. He managed a quip to match the ME's greeting.

Well, when you show up, you certainly don't come empty handed, do you?

A gentlemen always comes bringing gifts, although not normally this gruesome. Next time I'll bring flowers.

After that, the businessman was very quiet, the ME helping him to relive the sight of Alycia not so long ago. His breathing ceased as his heartbeat actually sped up, something not lost on Haleigh herself. He nodded slowly as Haleigh covered the post-mortem injuries and postulated on the supernatural origin of these phenomena. Karen agreed off the record, even adding a warning from Alycia, and then Nicolas finally spoke.

Let's go off the record in general, shall we? Considering the past events, what we know in terms of warning, and the evidence here, it is safe to assume that the event is not of natural origin. As for the Valiant, the injuries are consistent with drowning, which could happen in a PARTIALLY submerged craft. The families will not be interested in the crude details of death, simply the basic cause, and I will make sure that there is no financial hardship to the families in order to pre-empt invasive legal action.

Now, as for this phenomenon, we must take this on somehow. We cannot idly allow others to be lost. Considering what was lost before, I am not proud that we have waited THIS long.

the ME's office

[ Dominique nodded as Haleigh spoke of the condition of the boat. THAT aspect of it was clearly more this new young woman's forte' but they both could see that the bodies AND the boat had suffered damage in a 24 hour period that should have taken WEEKS at least to occrr.]

You're right, Ms. Davidoff and we've got a problem...I'm on the STATE'S payroll and If i make my reports NOW, you're going to have ALOT of outside scrutiny and attention. We're at a crossroad, Madame Mayor. I know that you and many others in this room, and even those who are NOT had to make a critical descision the LAST time this happened.

[ Dominique was hiting to the fact that these deaths, as the ones similar to them before were obviously NOT "accidents" truly. and that this could MORE than reveal the secrets of Thunder Bay, most notably the fact that many mutants and metahumans lived here.]

Off the record....I have lived here a long time, I know the status of many of the people of this town.

[ though she refused to divulge if she herself was of the same status.]

Can I speak freely in front of Ms. Davidoff?

[ Nicolas nodded and vouched for her.]

Madame Mayor, You've got a problem on your hands. What that problem is, I can't say...at least not matter of factly...and while I can COVER for you "on the record" to keep the state or even the FEDS at bay, You will have to deal with this "problem" and soon. I don't have to tell you that you're town is depending on you...The last time this happened, it was easier to "cover up" the details because all of the victims were members of prominent families...but these men here...their deaths, the fact that they are so SIMILAR to the ones before...if the media gets ahold of this, all hell is going to break loose and I know what that could mean for many people in this town...

But you should all go now and get some rest. The weather service reports that a fog bank is moving in. I'll be in touch with the mayor's office Michael's department tomorrow with a "FINAL REPORT". Nicolas, i think you know the drill about damage control with your crews on the dock and someone should visit Sharon and tell her what's going on...Alison Marble as well. It's only right.

[ she nodded to them all and bid them farewell for the evening. ]

Mike listened intently, watching as everyone had their input. His valuable asset was that he was very organized, capable of assimilating information and finding what to do that would be best.

He knew Nicolas and Karen's capabilities quite well. Haleigh would be USELESS to Nic unless she were special. He thought about what to do, this information in mind, and then spoke.

Dominique, you have established drowning as the cause. We can release that to the families and local media, as that finding is expected in any case, and then allude to a general security exercise designed to keep Thunder Bay safe and coinciding with the festivities. I will free up manpower to support whatever Ms. Davidoff would see fit in terms of in-depth investigation. I am certain that whatever is going on, we should be capable of handling it once we discover what it is. Is that agreeable, Madame Mayor?

<< Karen felt a bit...dismayed. She was thankfull when Dominique covered the bodies once more. She could hear the mournfull toll of the FOG HORN outside, which meant that darkness was coming across the land. As Nicolas , Dominique and Mike spoke, "off the record", Delilah had a quick sidebar with Karen. >>

Delilah: Are you allright, Karen?

<< she didnt immediately respond...as she shut her eyes tightly, still wearing the mask.>>

Oh...ah...yes. I'm fine.

Delilah: Nice try, But I know you too well. You shouldnt have come here...I shouldve just taken you home after that incident with Alison.

<< the first indication to anyone else that there might have been a problem with Alison today. Nicolas and Mike knew how HOSTILE the woman had been ever since her brother died and they knew that she blamed THEM for not going further into the circumstances surrounding his and the other's deaths.>>

No , really Delilah. I have duties to perform...I had to be here.

Delilah: Dominique is right. We should all be heading home and soon. My blackberry just got an update that the fog is rolling in fast!

<< As Mike and Nicolas laid out plans for what they would do to help this situation, Karen nodded>>

Yes, I approve. Do whatever you have to, just keep me informed. But let's not be sloppy with this. The town is expecting to celebrate tomorrow...the 100th anniversary. Anything more like this...and we may not have ANYTHING to celebrate.

maybe we shouldnt be doing it anyway...just like Alison said...

<< at that moment, one of Dominique's staff members rushed in, handing her a message.>>

Dominique: Nicolas, Sharon Kelly wants to see you. She says its urgent.

Delilah: Come on, Karen...let me take you home...there's nothing more YOU can do here...

<< Karen looks at Delilah in distress.>>: maybe i never did ENOUGH!

<< clearly this was getting to her, and it wasnt just ebcause of these men, it was because of memories of Christopher on one of these tables, it was because Alison was probably RIGHT after all!>>

Delilah: Allright kids...I'm taking her home.

<< and with that, Delilah leads Karen out of the exam room, but the idea of two women traveling alone tonight with another fog bank rolling in didnt sit well with Mike, who DEFINATELY had more than a professional interest in Karen, as Haleigh silently observed. >>

a n ight of mystery and danger

<< Mayor Victoria and Miss Trelevan departed, with both women thanking Dominique and bidding the others goodnight. It was obvious that this had taken a toll on Karen and understandibly so. Haleigh worried that it might have a similar affect on Nicolas. It was getting to the point where even if Haleigh WANTED to leave, she couldnt. SHe'd barely escaped being called out by Delilah and Mike and found herself thrust into a major role in what was prooving to be a dark mystery, one that was sure to twist even further.>>

<< Dominique herself took no pleasure in any of these things. It never got easier...just perhaps more numbing. Her OWN status of whether she was a mutant or metahuman was still a mystery, even to Nicolas and Mike but she was clearly MORE than met the eye. She informed Nicolas that Sharon Kelly was looking for him and that it was urgent, for one of the town's biggest celebrities to be searching for him, it had to be something important...either that or it was yet ANOTHER one of NIcolas' booty calls :p >>

<< Nicolas went to take Sharon's and Mike who insisted on driving the two women back, taking Delilah home first and then Karen.>>

<< Haleigh stayed in the exam room with Dominique. Dominique tended to some paper work and began recording her final report on the three "drowning victims" and as she did so, Haleigh sat, near one of the bodies. It was obvious that Haleigh could handle herself quite well in these situations, but this town was certainly testing even HER threshold.>>

<< as she sat, one of the bodies began to MOVE. ever so slightly at first...neither Dominique nor Haleigh noticed. soon, the body slowly sat up, its cover silently falling off. the body MOVED with coordination as it picked up a SCAPLE from a nearby trey...and slid off the exam table...and began to move toward Haleigh.>>

<< Dominique's voice continued to fill the room, as did the soft hum of power and energy from the lights and various systems. closer and closer the body came...until it was now JUST BEHIND Haleigh, standing over her and as it LUNGED for her, it simply CRASHED to the floor beside her! the scaple sliding away. Dominique is suitably startled, as Haleigh reactions to the body's inexplicable moves , seeming to ATTACK her.>>

meanwhile, Haleigh wasnt the only one who was experiencing MORE "unnatural" things.

in the neighborhood

<< Morgan screeches to a halt in front of Ava's mansion. the trunk pops open. All three women to get out as AVa moves to retrieve her latest addition, to that 'unholy zoo of horror' as Morgan called it :D >>

gawd, Ava...they ought to have you on Ripley's believe it or not..all these damn snakes you have.

<< she and Blaze stand near the trunk as Ava goes to retrieve the snake but as the woman opens the trunk all the way, the find that ...>>

It's GONE!

<< all that is htere is a small pile of dust...OLD dust at that...filled with wood fibre and sea bed sediment.>>

the snake...it's not even there...its just this pile of dirt and sediment!

<< she looks up and notices that its darker outside now...and that the air feels thicker...like DEW wants to form, but instead, in the distance from among the trees and houses she sees...>>

it looks like the FOG is rolling in...ALREADY!

<< the three young women stand together as they hear wolves and other animals howling.>>

allright, thats it...I've had it with this freaky shit!

Come on, let's get out of here.

<< and with that, she teleports them all, with the car back to HER mansion. the car is in the steep driveway and the women are now inside the mansion.>>

gold coins turning into wood? snakes hiding under the wood before VANISHING into thin air? its like we're being subjected to some super natural sorrority prank and yet...

<< as the looks out of the window.>>

I know its more than that.

<< she shakes her head...thoroughly pissed.>>

I need a fucking drink!

<< and with that, she goes to the liquor cabinet >>

I'm NOT going to be discombobulated by a frickin FOG!

Does anyone else want anything?

on the phone with Nicolas.

[ Sharon sat in her master bedroom, looking out of the window to the ocean, as another fog bank was rolling in.]

damn...

[ she used her sonar to find where Nicolas was and then called. she was going to FLY there but she didnt want to leave Kyle alone or with Mrs. Kobritz...who was much older and had no special powers. No, her maternal instinct told her to stay at home tonight and let the "ghost dj" run the broadcast. ]

on the phone with Nicolas: Nicolas? Sharon here, listen...I've got something that my son found while Blaze was babysitting him. Morgan, Ava and Blaze were here earlier, looking at it with me but they've left. I think that it may be something you can identify. It's a piece of drift wood, but its not ordinary, not by a long shot. there's some carving on it and I wondered if it ....

[ she realized that it sounded strange and vague at the same time.]

Listen, i didnt want to leave my house tonight. I didnt want to leave Kyle with the babysitter and i know its dark...there's a fog coming in. If you can't come over tonight, maybe you could come to the lighthouse tomorrow morning?

[ she spoke, while still fixated on her ocean view and that eerie fog that seemed to be almost TOO EAGER to rise up over the rocks and now flow all around her home which was one of the first signs it was making land fall.]

the ME's office

[ Dominique thanked everyone for their attention and wished them all safe passage. Nicolas and Haleigh remained behind...Nicolas had to take Sharon's call and Haleigh sat in the exam room as Dominique wrapped things up.]

Hell of a first assigment to have eh?

[ she addressed Haleigh with her back turned as she went over some xrays for a moment, then jotted some things down on her formal report and then took up her hand held recorder about to document her "final report".]

[ as she began to talk, she passed back and forth a bit. She had no problem with Haleigh being present, but neither woman realized that one of the cadavers was STIRRING! it managed to make its way right up behind Haleigh and just as the woman reacted, Dominique dropped her recorder with a gasp of shock as the body CRASHED down to the floor, completely missing Haleigh.]

[ the ME rushed over to Haleigh and the body.]

are you ALLRIGHT?

[ she looks down, ]

this body...not only did it get back up, but it was holding a SCALPEL, brandishing it like it was a WEAPON.

Many of the gathering left, including Nicolas-- he had to take a call.... that left Haleigh with the ME as she finished her reports. Haleigh requested [and the doctor graciously obliged] to see the reports herself. Haleigh ALSO mentally reviewed all of the pictures, police and ME reports from the LAST wreck. Nicolas had included them in the 'packet' of information he'd 'given' her earlier. She was so engrossed in linking the similarities that she didn't notice one of the bodies MOVING.... towards her!

Dominique said:
Hell of a first assigment to have eh?

"Hmm? Oh.... yes.... It certainly promises to be INTERESTING."

She responded, and as she threw a glance towards the Doctor, she noticed it: A shadow on the wall in front of her... a raised arm... moving closer! Haleigh WHIPPED around, as Dominique gasped.... Haleigh's left hand went instinctively to the handle of her pistol, she cast her eyes on the scapel and then 'directed' it out of the corpse's hand with her gaze, and it went sliding across the floor but the body itself fell to the floor. The ME rushed over, clearly as shocked by the reanimation as Haleigh was, asking if she was alright. ALRIGHT?? this was the SECOND TIME today that a DEAD BODY had tried to ASSAULT her.... but she quickly regained her composure.

"Yes.... yes, I'm okay.... it's just.... I didn't tell you the COMPLETE story behind the post mortem injuries before... Dick Baxter's body... it FELL on me in all the chaos of the ship listing.... I might've contributed to his injuries, in the fervor of reaction and with everything so topsy turvy.... I didn't want to say in front of everyone else.... I felt a little embarrassed to have overreacted. I thought it was just HAPPENSTANCE that he 'fell' onto me.... but with this... [pausing, looking a little disturbed now] I think.... we should RESTRAIN the rest of the bodies.... just in case."

Nicolas turned as he was informed of Sharon's call.

Urgent? I will take it immediately. Please excuse me.

Nicolas walked with urgency as he went to the phone.

Sharon. Is everything OK honey?

Sharon and Nicolas had also become quite close since the deaths of their loved ones. Though their relationship was not the same as his and Karen's. They were close friends and a few times...they managed to forget their loneliness for a few moments together. So the concern was evident as he spoke to her.

Nicolas?

Nicolas was concerned. As someone who used her voice for a living, always managing to have something to say, Sharon seemed cryptic and quite concerned.

Sharon, I will be there NOW.

Nicolas hung up and stepped quickly around a corner, entering a bathroom...

...and exiting in front of Sharon, apparently having teleported there. He walked up to her, concern marking his face.

Is Kyle OK? Let's see what he found.

to her private office

[ she bent down a bit closer....extending her pointer as she prodded the body a bit. listening a Haleigh told her what really happened with Dick Baxter, the ME stood back upright.]

well, since you seem to be more than just another pretty face, I can tell you that this happened before. Christopher Victory, Mayor Victoria's husband who died with Alycia that night several years back...his body reanimated in much the same way as it lunged for Karen right here in this lab. It was an extreme but short lived moment.

[ moving over to the wall, she presses a button, summoning some movers to come put the body back on the table. she may have been the ME but she didnt do THIS. ;) ]

[ she took her gloves off and thoroughly washed and sanitized her hands, then moisturized them.]

Come on. We're done here. My staff will reposition the body, restrain the others and place them in the refrigiration unit.]

[ she says as she moves Haleigh to walk with her, down the hall towards her private office where Nicolas is taking his call.]

Even in death, the body maintains some level activity. The brain retains electrical impulses that take MONTHS to dissipate. hair and nails continue to grow. It is possible that a body could experience a jolt of "activity", but usually that happens shortly after time of death, not this late.

[the ME then comments on something that hits close to home with Haleigh.]

I have read medical journals, shocking as they were, involving biological /technical experimentation that saught to harness the residual electrical pulses within the brain post mortem. a consortium of doctors in new york agressively funded their own research and were working on refining a biological agent, the "T VIRUS", supposedly the designer descendant of the "G Virus" which was a disaster over a 100 years ago.

Reported results have been few and far between, but...seeing what that body just did reminded me of the articles i've read on the G virus...there have been reports, that the G virus was found only a few miles from the waters of Arklay Pointe but that was ...100 years ago. There's no record of any families here or anyone since this township was recognized having the G virus or any other sort of infection of that kind.

[ and as suddenly as she spoke on it, she changed topics. pointing]

Nicolas was in my office, talking to Sharon Kelly. You can wait for him here.

[ and with that, Dominique leaves Haleigh, walking down a long hall before disappearing around a corner, leaving the woman to think about what she said.]

Sharon's ocean loft

[ Sharon was pacing a bit, brooding even. Nicolas arrived and Sharon quickly turned to greet him.]

Nicolas...thank you for coming. Kyle's ok. I've put him to bed. This fog...it came in so fast this evening...I've decided to stay home tonight and let the ghost DJ run the broadcast. I don't REALLY need to be there till tomorrow anyway.

[ she leads him out of her master bedroom, through the hall and down the spiral stair case to the main floor. through a few rooms that seemed to perfectly lead from one to another, giving the loft a large and spacious feel. ]

[ into the large kitchen, toward the center where the island was, she comes.]

its this here. the drift wood.

[ it looked to be the size of a decent piece of fire wood but it was obviously from a ship of some kind.]

Kyle and Blaze found it, but they said it was a GOLD COIN first and then in a flash of light it turned into that! Morgan and Ava came by to pick up Blaze and they examined it, but as Morgan touched it, a SNAKE was hiding underneath it and attacked her! Ava took control of the snake but said it was NO kind of snake she'd ever seen before. They left about an hour ago...Morgan seemed allright. But i know how phobic she is about snakes.

[ the light of the light house could be seen in the faint distance from one of the windows and so could the fog that was creeping all around the area.]

there's something on the wood...a carving of some sort...

[the carving spelled out the word "DANE"...as in ELIZABETH DANE, the ship that James Marcus and his men used to sail the night that the founders of Thunder Bay lured them into a death trap!]

[ as she pointed to the drift wood...water began to drip from it, to the floor, more and more with each passing moment. seaweed curled around it as the lights in the kitchen began to flicker.]

[voices can be heard by Sharon AND Nicolas.. first a collective buzzing, whispering...and then they seem to become distinct. one in particular rings out...]

James Marcus: Something like an albatross around the neck. No. More like a millstone. A plumbing stone. By God. Damn them all.

[ the sound of a ship breaking apart and the screams of men falling into the water and drowning can be heard. and then...]

Robert Kelly: You must PAY! For what you have done...I'm coming for you Sharon! You AND our son! You will join me....

[ Sharon can hear EVERYTHING perfectly. It sounds so MONSTROUS, but her husband's voice is the worst...it's warped, demonic.]

NO, ROBERT!

[ the drift wood then IGNITES into FLAME, burning there on the island in her kitchen before her and Nicolas' very eyes.]

Nicolas looked at her a moment, guaging her level of agitation beofr eturning to the wood. It seemed pretty mundane overall. As he looked at it, he scanned it as well, hoping to get a feel for anything else. It was a piece of ship, he reckoned by the shape of it and the apparent age. It was probably an old shipwreck form back before the lighthouse or thereabouts. He could make out the word "Dane" on it. He would have to reference that once he got to a computer...

suddenly, he heard a voice. Many voices actually. He could tell by Sharon's breathing and her eyes that she heard it too. It was dominated by a voice marked with the sound of Old English, at least from the late 1800s, maybe farther back.

Something like an albatross around the neck. No. More like a millstone. A plumbing stone. By God. Damn them all.

He could hear other voices but not as clear, but they seemed familiar somehow. He could sense Sharon's agitation rise sharpkly before she exclaimed.

NO, ROBERT!

Nicolas reached out to her just as the wood burst into flame!! Holder her away from the flames, Nicolas lifted the wood up telekinetically as it burned itself out quickly, leaving ash in its wake. He glnaced out the window, noticing the fog that was VERY similar to last night. He turned to Sharon.

Are you OK Sharon? Look, if you want, you KNOW that you and Kyle are welcome at my place until we sort this out. I have plenty of room. You can take the pool house if you like. It will be more...private if you prefer. Right now he is fine, sleeping well. I can load you two up in no time and have you there. Because right now, I don't know what's going on, but I know that it is not what even WE normally deal with.

Nicolas reassured her that Kyle was fine. Kyle's psychic abilities emanated from him, and Nicolas could read them like a fingerprint. That only left the notion of whether Sahron wished to go it alone or not.
