So I wonder Jill if you would prefer we go back to the old system of trading off running storylines? This is probably more of a question for you and Harley because iirc you two still had to do that the most. Personally, I don't really feel the need to be in charge of storylines but if that will make things better for you I will just be sure to plan. lol

tying in to what you & sam were talking about earlier & how we used to do things in the past- i think it is time we get back to each player having a storyline to direct. Also, in the event that the director has to leave for personal matters etc, send a copy of the story idea & important plot points to me so that i can take over & likewise I'll do the same when I'm the director.

Whomever's directing will use ORACLE , since she's the primary narrorator for the game.

Otherwise, I still think maybe having some guidelines, even a list of what we all are expected to do and when the failsafes come into play. Cause I do think we need to make the same rules for everyone, ie we don't want to end up waiting a week for one person and two hours for another before carrying them (without a good reason).

yes, some general guidelines across the board will help either way. Ill be working on those now even as we continue this discussion & post the list for feedback.

I know crap happens but maybe even if there was a system where, Jill if something happens with your health or what have you that you text Sam or me or Garrick and then they can come here and say, "Hey, Farrah can't be on, so let's move on to the backup." I don't know if it makes sense to say keep an outline of the story in the Oracle account's pm's so it can be accessed or if that's too much work?

yes. ive tried to do that before but i need to be consistent w/ that as do we all & if I happen to be the director of a story @ that time, ill PM the deets of the story to whomever is going to take over for me.

As someone who is coming in new, that sounds really scary to me. LOL! But if need be, I can definitely handle it. Anything to help out and 'earn my keep' around here. :)

And that's why I think it's so important for everyone to really think about being accepting of each other's different levels of comfort at certain things :) It's difficult for me, as Garrick said, to write fight scenes. Especially for Delilah because she's not a character I created and her power set is a struggle for me sometimes. Jill is awesome at leading the story (I am not lol). But I think even if people who are less comfortable directing the story are supported while doing it, and that's something the rest of us need to be conscious of, it can be something we all get better at doing.

Like I don't want YOU De to feel you can't direct an idea just because you may be unsure how to do it because you haven't done it before. There's no reason that you couldn't do it.

:)

PS It's scary for me too ;)

Don't worry De, itll be a while before you're put @ the front ;) But as CF just said, this is why its important not only for me (the mastrix) but ALL the players to be aware of & accepting of each other's skill/comfort level in the game.

As i explained to you when we first started talking about your joining the six, each player here comes from a different background & has different sources of inspiration for what drives their character & game play. we've all learned from on another as we've played together for so many years now & the key is being open minded , accepting & willing to listen. ALSO not being afraid to ask questions- whether its here in OOC or if its something to do w/ a character or situation, to PM the player. even if you just want advice or tips on something as well

Long before you're expected to create/lead a story, you'll have the tools you need, De & if necessary, someone to help you lead. we've done that before, have co-leaders on stories.

& FYI - I happen to think CF does a FINE job w/ Delilah :) it's true that she was given the character (the original player of Delilah abruptly left us ) but I think she's done a great job w/ MorningStar

I wasn't fishing lol - I just recognize that you Jill as someone who has read a lot of that type of character (Dazzler etc) you "get" it more easily that I do. It's often hard for me to picture tons of different ways to use those powers in my head, even now having read up on some of those comics. Someone like Foxfire for example, where I grew up seeing Firestar, it's much easier for me to visualize.

I'm just saying each of us has some things that come easier than others. :) Jill is great at leading, Garrick is really good at the fight scenes and Sam is really great with drama (not that they aren't all good at the other thing, too, that's just where I personally see everyone's top strengths).

I would be happy to be in a co-lead situation because I know I get stuck on my own.

:)

i know you werent but I just felt the need to say it b/c the game is good as the sum of its parts. ALL of us  I couldnt do this w/out you.
Perhaps we could meet in the middle? Whomever comes up with a storyline has to co-helm it with Farrah? That way if Farrrah ends up leaving for personal issues, that person can fully lead the story without fail since it's theirs to begin with. Or vise versa; if the person who's leading to story has an unexpected reason for being absent, Farrah can still carry it on without fail.

That way, it can make both De and Vil feel better about leading the stories since Farrah will be there to back them up. Because I know I love coming up with storylines, however the thought of taking over Oracle is always nerve racking for me lol.

That will definitely make me feel better. :) I already have some ideas for storylines with Cass [for the future] but I have no idea how to pull them off, or if they will even come to fruition. :)

Maybe (obviously if Jill agrees lol) we could take it on a case by case basis. You, Sam, might be perfectly fine helming a certain storyline, or you want to do everything but write Oracle. Maybe I could have an idea that involves De's character, and since I don't always want to be the only one there and since maybe at that moment Jill wants a break, I could then ask De to help?

I really like coming up with ideas too, but I don't always think I can make it interesting for everyone else.

Yeah, that could work better. I just want everyone to feel like they can make a storyline for their character without stressing out about helming it alone.

I only said it could vary because it sounds to me like Jill might not want to have to be there every storyline running it even sharing duties.

For the record, Vil is quite good at drama in her own right. That is personally my weakness. Too often for guys the drama comes from who you slept with/almost slept with, lol. As for fighting, she is much improved just as I have gotten somewhat better at drama. So hang in there Ruby and lean on your teammates in this. I have learned much more in this RPG than I have taught. And I am sure I will learn from you as well.

I think that having someone as the backup/minority partner for Jill in each arc makes sense. That way she can simply hand off with some direction when she has to go and take it back when she returns as needed.

Also, I recall us simply having people get captured or being injured and teleported away when they could not post. That is always an option for us given our powerset.

so lets be clear:

Everyone is in favor of returning to a minimum of 1 post per day requirement?

Each player should submit a storyline to be played & when the time comes to play it, I will co-helm it.

When I have to leave for whatever reason, I'll PM necessary info about the story & any major particular plot points to the the other director.

ALL players must notify me if they are going to be away for extended period & thus can't keep up.

If a character is not able to keep up due to a player being out for whatever reason, they'll be written out w/ an explanation of being elsehwere etc.

"Carrying" will only happen if a player is going to be out for a day or two & is certain to return (again, notify my via pm).

--------------------------------------

What do you think about the idea of rotating the characters a bit. This way if a player has a story they want to submit that focuses on (for example)- Persephone, Rampage & Ruby primarily then that would free myself & whoever else to play supporting/minor/one-off characters.

And how about for every two "mainstream" stories, we do an alternate timeline story to break things up?

It's so weird to see the Spellbinder username lol!

I'm okay with this BUT I would rather maybe we have a list so to speak of storylines because we're not always going to have an idea (this non-canon storyline ended up having pretty much all three of the storyline I've been wanting to do in it lol). I'd rather just personally be able to put up an idea when I have one instead of wracking my brain cause oh shit it's my turn lol. And we could have ideas we want to keep for ourselves but there may be ones we'd be fine having someone else do if it involves their character or they're stuck for an idea. Just a thought, but like I said I'm fine just going around the circle too.

I think maybe we need to define extended period?

"Carrying" will only happen if a player is going to be out for a day or two & is certain to return (again, notify my via pm).

Are we going to have something in place if someone just doesn't get online for a day or two? Cause sometimes they don't know ahead of time or shit just happens and they can't get on even to pm?

Do you mean to say that we wouldn't use ALL our characters everytime? If so, I'm fine with that because I like playing different characters. But I do think it should somewhat be up to the person whether they want to play their character or not. At least have a discussion about it, like, "I haven't played so and so for a while and I'd really like to add them into this storyline rather than play someone new."

And how about for every two "mainstream" stories, we do an alternate timeline story to break things up?

I don't know what I feel about this. I like alternate storylines, but I'm not sure (especially if we will be moving faster) that I want to be doing them ALL the time. Like above I will go with the group, but maybe we should just do it when we all feel the need for a break, kind of like we have been really. Rather than a set number. Or maybe we just wait for someone to have a great AU idea. :)

well yes. players can submit ideas to me as they occurr & ill store them (i have a folder on here just for that now lol) & then when i can pull from the list as need. We won't have to go in a circle per se. But even if we are in the midst of one story & someone has an idea for a future one, they can submit it to me & then we can use it later. I still have some things from Garrick that we'll be using soon. then itll give me & the player time to prep etc.

I think maybe we need to define extended period?

longer than a week or two weeks? & give an estimated time of return or @ least PM followup for future status.

Are we going to have something in place if someone just doesn't get online for a day or two? Cause sometimes they don't know ahead of time or shit just happens and they can't get on even to pm?

in days past, we'd just go ahead & the person would come on (usually lexi :D) & say "damn you all posted all this crap now i gotta catch up" lol! so what do you suggest?

i think this would be more related to non canon stories now that i look @ it. there's more room & flexibility in those.

in mainstream, if players want to revisit an old character (who isnt so DEAD that i can find a way to credibly bring them back lol), change characters completely & put their current character on hiatus etc...just pm me so we can discuss it & work it in so is not to ruin a storyline that's going on.

im thinking about teams like the Avengers or X-men, who have large, rotating rosters. So maybe the flexibility of changing characters will help keep a person's interest going. & for those like me who play multiple characters, It'll help give me someone new to bounce off of & keep my creativity going.

true. we did our first non canon story following SET b/c that was an intense storyline that had wide reaching impact in mainstream & we all needed a break from that lol. we'll keep the non canon stories less frequent b/c they're like a treat for us. BUT if there's a character that makes a big splash that might be a good crossover into mainstream, i'm open to that as well  we've already had some examples of that like w/ Persephone & Firebird.

Minor suggestion? Maybe when we finish a particular storyline everyone could take a week long break to reboot and for the story runner to get all their eggs in a basket. That way we aren't going from one storyline to the next immediately and burning out. Because I know sometimes in the past when we were more fast paced than we are now, I would start to get burned out a bit.

Just a suggestion, like I said. :)

Okay, I don't know when my turn is coming up again or how long it will be, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I probably won't be on as much. We're moving in a week, and so I have to pack my room up [I have started, I swear, I've just accumalated all kinds of crap].

So if you guys don't hear from me for quite some time, you know why. :)

good luck w/ the move. if you'll be out for an extended period, just shoot me a PM letting me know when you expect to return or follow up
Good luck with the move!

That is fine with me, I kind of had forgotten about that lol. So we won't necessarily specifically carry we just won't sit around waiting for someone to post and have the rest of us not posting. I understand now :)

from here on, after we complete a story, we'll take a week break  I think these changes will allow us to move forward & enjoy things more easily.

I have a few more things to cover now w/ regards to gameplay.

1) all players, when posting in character, MUST indicate where they are in the subject line of the post. This adds to the flow.

2) It's important to make sure to follow cues from Oracle. If any questions, please PM me or the director of the story

3) Do NOT "jump the gun" or have a character do/know something he/she shouldn't know when it comes to plot points & details. even I use Harbinger's precognition sparingly. If you're unsure- check w/ myself or the director via pm so you dont spoil a plot point for the story & other players.

4) If you want to set something up w/ another player's character or need to "puppet" them for a post you're doing, please PM the player for permission as a courtesy.

5) Don't be afraid to be creative w/ your character in his/her looks, presentation or power set. Just be sure to contact me via PM about any changes you want to make so we can discuss them.

Is there anything else regarding game play we need to address?
