Ikaris
Ikaris was born over 7,000 years ago, along the shores of the Mediterranean. Its mother is Lillith, Queen and Mother to the first of the demons. Lillith had been created to be the wife and companion of Adam but was cast from Eden when she refused to subjugate herself to Adam. Denied Eden and cursed by God, Lillith walked the Earth plotting her revenge against both her former mate and his Creator. Blessed with immortality, she learned of the power contained within her body as it was made of the same primal clay that God had created Adam from. As humanity blossomed through Adam and his new mate, Eve, Lillith saw that they would be able to overpower her by sheer numbers alone. She decided to create a race with which to plague mankind and to destroy their world. As no human would approach her, she used her power to create life alone. Lillith’s magicks enabled her to give birth to over a thousand demons in many different forms, one of the last of which was Ikaris.
Ikaris was born in an insectoid form, including wings, a bisected tail ending in stingers that contain a virulent poison, extendable tentacles in the place of forearms and the ability to reproduce by implanting host bodies with eggs that would grow and devour the host from within. Through its Mother, it also was born with a connection to the primal magicks of the universe, granting it vast power as well as immortality. Existence among the Lillan as Lillith’s descendants are referred to, was a harsh one. Lillith encouraged her offspring to engage in what can only be referred to as warfare, to strengthen them for the battles against humanity. Pain being an excellent teacher, Ikaris learned its lessons well. Wanting to discover more about the race of man, Ikaris would frequently journey to human villages and cities, hiding itself among the shadows that it controlled. Ikaris became filled with disgust and shared its Mother’s hatred for the race of men. Deciding that the most effective way to destroy them was from within, Ikaris learned the spells that enabled it to take human form, most frequently that of a handsome man or beautiful woman, having discovered that mankind frequently judged each other by appearance and attractive was seen as being “good” and rarely suspected of any wrong doing.
Ikaris spent millennia wandering the world, spreading chaos and destruction wherever it went, including playing a pivotal role in the destruction of Atlantis, an entire continent of human mages and scientists whose works have yet to be duplicated. It is this feat and that of encouraging the rise of the Age of Reason that Ikaris remains most proud of. With the advent of the Age of Reason, mankind began to disbelieve in the existence of the supernatural which in turn limited the numbers of human magickal practitioners and made those remaining easier to hunt down and destroy.
In the late 19th century there began a resurgence of interest in the supernatural and Ikaris found itself stymied in its attempts to stop it. Witches and other beings dedicated to the betterment and protection of humanity again were growing strong. In the late 20th century, Ikaris joined with others of a like mind and helped to bring into being the Academy of Demonic Arts, a place of learning where younger and less experienced demonic beings could come to learn from their Elders, how better to destroy the humans. It was here at the ADA that Ikaris first came into contact with the Darkchilde. Recognizing the sorceress’ power and ambition, Ikaris began a specialized form of training with her that resulted in the creation of her primary weapon, the Soul Sword. Having trained up someone who it knew would take the ADA to greater heights, Ikaris chose to leave the group to pursue other activities.
Ikaris and Darkchilde maintained a friendship and it later accepted Farrah's request that it join a new group she had started from the ashes of the fallen ADA, the Masters of Evil. Within the Masters, Ikaris found a new group of comrades who were as dedicated to the destruction and subjugation of the humans as it was.
Shortly after joining the Masters of Evil, Ikaris joined other high-ranking members of the coven in a battle against the machinations of the Original Dire Wraiths who were attempting to destroy the Darkchilde’s mind and soul. During this battle, Ikaris was the focus of a spell that was disrupted and the backlash of the spell ripped through Ikaris’ body. The disrupted spell cause several apparently permanent changes within Ikaris including the loss of its connection to the universal primal energies and the loss of its insectoid form. The pain and grief of his losses drove Ikaris mad for a time, during which Ikaris believed that it was Darkchilde. After the events in Inferno, Ikaris was forced to deal with a severe limiting of its powers as well as having to grow accustomed to life in human form. Ikaris remains very sensitive on these subjects and is now also forced to deal with the intrusion of human emotions into its life. It was these human emotions that led to Ikaris’ relationship with Wyatt Halliwell, the son of a White Lighter Elder and one of the Charmed Ones. Brought to evil under unknown circumstances, Wyatt had journeyed from the future to destroy a renegade from his own time, one who was attempting to change their past and stop Wyatt from becoming absolute ruler of his time. Ikaris and Wyatt are curiously devoted to each other, though both would deny any such emotion if asked, Ikaris claiming that Wyatt was nothing more than a diversion, Wyatt insisting that theirs was a relationship of convenience and a means of gaining power.
Powers: Due to his demonic heritage, Ikaris has absolute control and mastery over shadows and darkness. He is able to manipulate them in a number of ways including:
Teleportation: stepping into one shadow and reemerging from another at any distance he chooses, as long as he has a clear mental picture of his destination. This form of teleportation also allows him to travel to other dimensions.
Shadow Form: Ikaris is able to transform his body into living shadow that possesses no physical mass, making him effectively intangible if he so chooses. He may also reshape this form at will molding it to suit his needs or desires, though this form will be unable to affect the material world unless he grants it mass.
Shadow Weapons/Objects: Through force of will, Ikaris is able to grant physical mass to any shadow object that he creates enabling him access to any physical weapon or shield that he can think of.
Animation of Shadows: Ikaris possesses the ability to animate any shadow in his line of sight causing it to move in accordance with his will and independently of the object that is casting the shadow. Often this ability is used to mock others as their shadow exaggeratedly pantomimes their actions or Ikaris attitudes towards the owners. Ikaris is also able to use this ability with his power to grant mass to shadows in order to attack opponents.
Create Darkness: Ikaris is able to create areas of complete darkness.
Shadow Vision: As part of his mastery of shadows, Ikaris is able to see clearly in any level of darkness.
Telepathy: Ikaris is able to communicate telepathically with others. This works best with others that are telepathically gifted. While unable to project psionic bolts, Ikaris is able to tinge his communications with his prevailing emotions, causing slight to moderate pain if he chooses.
Sorcery: Ikaris remains a high level sorcerer even after being cut off from the primal energies of the universe. He is quite gifted in the creation of new spells and has contributed a number of spells to the MoE grimoire, the Darkholde.
Limited Shapeshifting: Being born non-human, Ikaris had been an expert in the art of shapeshifting before the events in Inferno. Presently he is limited to a human male and female form, able to shift between the two at will. His male form is the one most commonly seen and is that of a handsome man in his mid to late twenties with jet-black hair that reaches his shoulders. Approximately 6’3” tall and 190 pounds, he appears to engage in a high level of physical exercise. The female form is that of a woman in her mid twenties with slightly longer than shoulder length blonde hair. Approximately 5’9” tall and 125 pounds, Ikaris could easily pass for a model and indeed has done so in the past.
Incubus:Shortly after the betrayal of Riana and Kurama, Ikaris was summoned by Lillith to account for his actions. The Demon Queen was quite angry at the turn of events with one of her favored progeny being reduced in power. Determined to aid her child, Lillith created a mystical brand of her personal sigil on Ikaris' neck. The Lillan brand restored Ikaris to his insectoid form as well as granting him the ability to drain the life force of others by physical touch.
Insectoid Form: While she did restore the insectoid form that Ikaris had been born with, Lillith understood the importance of her child learning its lessons. While in insect form, Ikaris has no magical abilities at all other than to shift to human form. In its "Brood" Shape, Ikaris posesses the ability to lift up to two tons. It also possesses an insects ability to walk on surfaces like walls and ceilings. Ikaris possesses wings which enable it to fly at speeds of up to 40 miles an hour and a bisected tail that contains a deadly poison. It is also able to infect others with a parasitic type of egg that consumes the host from inside, transforming it into one of Ikaris' brood though it remains in possession of any powers and or abilities that the host had prior to the transformation.
Known Weapons: Ikaris is currently known to possess a cyber gem implanted in his throat that is capable of producing sonic screams that range from upsetting the equilibrium of another to shattering stone and steel. After the events in Inferno, Ikaris created a black diamond to house the remnants of his fading power. Implanted in a bow that he calls Blackthorne, the diamond allows Ikaris to fire multiple energy arrows that can disrupt magickal spells and the very nature of magickal beings. An added side effect of this disruption allows Ikaris to control the physical natures of his opponents, stopping breathing, stilling their hearts, etc.
