A topic of debate the world over, many fans for both pop icons have argued "who's better" but I personally think that it's clear to see Michael's "BETTER" days have LONG gone! :D

Anyway, here's ANOTHER creative take on the great debate, one with comical and ACIDIC results!

Madonna vs. Michael Jackson

It all depends on how you rank it. As an artist and as far as world wide success, its NO CONTEST. Michael Jackson has sold 3 times as many albums as Madonna and enjoys worldwide popularity easily at least on par with her even today.

Longevity and maintaining a relatively high level for the most amount of time? Madonna is gaining due to MJs silence while she chugs along, but Jackson was making records for 10+ years prior to Madonna making the scene.

I would say that Madonna is currently bigger in the US, and MJ is slightly bigger everywhere else.

you missed the point of the thread, Garrick, y ou were supposed to LAUGH at the deathmatch clip :p but you did tell us one thing...you're a closeted Michael Fan. :p it's cool, i like his classic material myself.

and Michael HIMSELF knew early on that if there was one person who was going to be his "foil" in the entertainment world, it was Madonna. he saw that in 1983-84 and they've been rivals ever since.

Madonna is "gaining"? honey ...look at what's happened from1993 till now...Madonna has PASSED him. So has his SISTER for that matter. Album sales at this point are immaterial, since Madonna is the highest selling female artist in the world (check wikipedia and soundscan) and while Michael may hold the distinction of having the single highest selling ALBUM of all time, many of his other feats have been matched or surpassed by Madonna...he's no longer the only artist to hold DIAMOND status for record sales. Madonna, Cher, Celine Dion and Shania Twain (to name the most prominent) also hold that distinction.

and the BIGGEST point, i think, is that MADONNA has always known how to use controversy to HER ADVANTAGE. EVEN when it seemed she might go under during the SEX/Erotica "scandal" ...she came out on top with giving HBO it's HIGHEST RATED live concert broadcast in the history of the channel, the album itself- while sliced up by critics still went multiplatinum and Madonna basically punched her critics in their collective eye. She's gained respect, she's become a legend and she can do whatever she wants at this point.

Michael, on the other hand, has been tarnished in his image...he ruined what physical appeal he may have had, his talent is overshadowed by his BEYOND "eccentric" ways and questionable tastes/choices...its really sad. This man was ...IS unlike any other artist that has come before or since...and even I acknowledge that he set the standard that Madonna knew she had to meet. BUT NOW in THE PRESENT...its obvious that he needs to do something...(what that is, i dont know) to TRY to "comeback".

Actually (I love yanking your chain about this) Madonna has sold roughly 41 million albums (new sales) to MJs roughly 38 million since 1993. If you were to count 1991 to the present, he eclipses her by over 20 MILLION albums. Since 1993 he has had the biggest selling multi-disc album AND the highest selling remix album ever. And if you count the sales of old albums in there, you will find it much more of a dead heat since '93 and no contest if you go back even a year before that.

The reputation thing. You are dead on Farrah that MJ has screwed his up but the Material Girl has had her own problems from the Kabbalah weirdness to the adoption craze that struck for a moment there. Nothing compared to MJ, but her image is not what it once was, hence her perceived drop in sex symbol status in some circles (although I think she is still pretty freakin' nice myself).

The deathmatch clip is crazy as hell. That show as the absolute coolest. And Madonna kicked MJ's ass.

And as for the present, the now belongs firmly to Madonna. I think the accusations are too much for him to overcome, at least in this country...

Damn the now, MJ is the greatest of all time, kinda like Muhammad Ali :)
