Ok, I'm throughly enjoying all my clases thus far this year and today in my Cross-Cultural Psychology class I picked up a few interesting... and yet in some ways disturbing facts.....

If we could shrink the world's population to 100 people, but all the existing rations remain the same, it would look like this:

57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 North and South Americans
8 Africans

70 Non-white, 30 White
70 Non-Christian
70 would be illerate
50 would suffer from malnutrition
80 would live in substandard living
1 would have a university education
50% of the world's wealth would be in the hands of 6 people, who would all live in the U.S.

I've actually seen that factoid on a joke site somewhere, it was really interesting to read though ^_^

ive read that before as well. it sort of reminds me of the FACT that we humans actually only populate 1 percent of the earth's surface. We've also ONLY manage to successfully chart and explore 1 percent of the earth's waters/oceans....

kind of makes you wonder, why the hell is "mankind" so obsessed with exploring the stars and space above (and leaving tons of trash behind with each excursion into space) when there is so much right here on our planet to explore.

the oceans are like a whole other world within a world.

Yeah I have this weird thing about Space Exploration. It just kind of freaks me out, and I know it is for good purposes and all that.. But I am just afraid that we will find aliens or something.. Like NASA will be watching their satellite photos and then some fast and big blur comes up and just bumrushes the camera lol.. Just freaks me out.

IF NASA and other such space exploration facilities of the world discovered intelligent life form in space AND assuming their was some type of communication possible between us and them.......how soon do you think it would be before arrogant assholes like George W. Bush tried to imply or assert some kind of "dominance" since he deems himself "the leader of the free world".

i imagine in instances like that....."man" on earth would quickly realize just how SMALL they are compared to the vastness of space.
