TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Police were called to the home of DC Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey's mother on Thursday to investigate her apparent suicide.
Police have confirmed that the dead person is Palfrey who was 52.

Palfrey was dubbed "The DC Madam" by the national media after her arrest for allegedly running an upscale call girl ring in the nation's capitol.

She was convicted on Tuesday of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering, but she had not yet been sentenced.

There has been much speculation in the media about who was on Palfrey's client list, but few details came out during the trial.

Randall L. Tobias resigned as a deputy secretary of state after acknowledging to ABC News that he used Palfrey's service for massages.

I actually think this is kind of sad. What kind of country do we live in when open sexuality is so forcibly punished and attacked that women found to be engaging in prostitution and other related acts feel the need to kill themselves rather than face public scrutiny? The idea that one should go to jail or have their career ruined for engaging in intercourse with another adult is absurd to me.

telling, but true. and the irony was that these zealots came over here with lies, std's and murderous practices as they stole the land, destroyed the natives and later on brutalized their own women...so basically the history is plain to see.

keeping prostitution illegal, like "the war on drugs" are one of the many things that give "law enforcement" its revenue.

if you polled most people, theyd tell you they dont give a damn about prostitution or see it as a "threat" to society. hell most people would probably use the service if it werent an "illegal offense"

in OTHER well developed countries of the world it is not a crime and you dont see the sun crashing to the earth.

To be a MADAME is actually a very lucrative position, just look at Heidi Fleiss! the only real mistake she made was cheating the gov't out of its taxes, you'll notice she was not CHARGED with prostitution but rather TAX EVASION.

It is VERY unfortunate that in this day and age...someone could be driven to kill themself rather than face scrutiny over something SEXUAL of all things but then again, look at so many gay people who have killed themselves for a similar reason again...in hypocritical, repressed america.

Lucrative position? Hell...the first nurses really were prostitutes. No other women would do the job. We actually owe quite a bit to the prostitution profession, lol.
