Ok, I've been scouring the internet for information on this for while, and have been feeding Farrah with drips and drabs.
Magik has returned many times over the years and each time she has fallen short of the real Magik who died from the legacy virus, there is one difference this time,
Craig Kyle and David Yost.
These are the guys that bought me X-23, a character I so desperately wanted to hate but coudn't help falling in love with. Yost and Kyle seem to have a penchant for teenage Mutant girls and their delivery of X-23 was nothing short of awe inspiring and legendary.
As writers they are not afraid to challenge fans resolve with their own logical progression of the X-men and as storytellers they aren't afraid to plunge extremely young characters into situations they clearly cannot handle such as Elixar seeing his beau shot in the head at point blank range and not having the skill to heal her (the nature of his power is to heal).
Kyle and Yost were also the only writers who truly embraced the decimation concept (post House of M) and decimated 90% of the New Xmen roster killing fan favourites (about 200 over 5 issues) or out right depowering them then shipping them off home - they actually only let two characters live Danni Moonstar and Windrider, the others though depowered and harmless still got killed by a classic rendition of William Stryker (God Loves Man Kills) or the equally classic Nimrod. After the decimation what was left was a sleek team based comic with enough personality to see two characters go to starbucks, drink coffee and talk sex whilst allowing for Stormtroopers to jump through the window of the Starbucks and kill everyone.
Who else could inspire such brash creativity in these two writers, that saw Stryker the religious zealot return with the equally classic Nimrod? Chris 'the one real Phoenix' Claremont. These guys are serious Claremont fans; from the Dawson Creek style interplay of characters (X-23's love for Hellion), to long-term character development best seen in Elixar and Rockslide, to the over elaborate conversations and the down right persecution these mutants have to face for being a minority, its all there in Kyle and Yost books and when Kyle and Yost write, their pens bleed Claremont!
And this leaves me with this:
It all adds up for a serious return for Magik, these writers aren't afraid to bring back the
'real' Illyana nor will they simply go for the easier House of M version. Oh no, these guys are REAL CLASSIC CLAREMONT fans, they have even stated that it won't be the House of M Magik who returns, this leaves the Magik who stayed in limbo and a child like duplicate took her place in the 'real world'. The proper fans that they are will give Magik the return she deserves and she's going to be a mainstay as well;
there is a Magic base crossover coming! As Marvel have confirmed they've dealt with Earth (Civil War), the cosmic scene (Annhilation) and now its time to deal with the Magic aspect of Marvel. I even think the titles, issues, cover art and characters are based on Tarrot cards.
Back to Kyle and Yost who will be bringing back the
real Illyanna Rasputin, I trust these guys to write any of my favourite characters, they hark back to the day when there were real X-men fans and real characters.
Oh and this made me wanna orgasm...
